Nav Waypoints - question

How do you insert a new waypoint in the middle of whatever course you've plotted? I've always had to delete & start over from where I wanted the new waypoint to be.

Select the plotting tool, move the pointer over a waypoint, then use Ctrl-Leftclick.

Hmmm, I must be missing something. I can get it to work sometimes. But most of the time, it doesn't.
Help??
