Well done Cap'n Pugwash!

We could use you on the U-46, I seem to have lost my touch since being in dock so long!

So tell us, how did the patrol go?

Well the weather was Terrible Waves were so high i thought i wouldn't get a decent shot

Sailed from Keil to AL36 ran into a few patrolling Ships around Scapa Flow but gave them a wide berth

got to my Patrol area did the 24 hour stint , then decided to head down towards Liverpool

got a contact report so decided to steer towards (nervously) Sonar reports came in thick and fast stuck me scope up a few times Weather was still Bad

then eventually whilst surfaced at Night the lookouts shouted "Ship spotted"

Dived to Periscope depth and the 1st thing i see is a FLower Corvette ulp.............

Close the distance to the enemy there sailing along at 6 knots i'm flat out at flank speed

start to line up my 1st victim when that voice shouts "wev'e been detected Sir"

Damm !!

scope around and sure enough the Flower corvette is hammering towards me put on full starboard Rudder and line him up for a bow shot fire off at 450mtrs the stopwatch ticks away forever I get ready tpo crash dive after taking a fix on the other ships

the stopwatch ticks away still goes past the etimated run time . i'm just about to dive and run away when Whump the Torpedo hits the Corvette stright between the eyes and sinks really quick like

another 35 degree to port and i start to line up the juicer targets the first one being the T3 she takes 3 hits before her back breaks 2 torpedo's just bounce off her

so that's 6 used out of 14 already

so next up i line up a small merchant 1 torpedo blows her clean out of the water .

Next up is a C2 Cargo and this is where things go wrong she takes 3 hits and still sails on i know have 2 torpedo's left i check my stern 180' and there's another Samll Merchant dead Astern aprrox 850m i fire off tube 5 and then quickly turn towards the C2 hoping to kill her off Properly

Fire my last Torpedo from 350m at a luvvley 90' angle and the Damm Torpedo bounces off the side of her

shortly after that "whump" and the Small Merchant adds to my my Tally by gracefully over and Sinking

so i had 4 duds out of 14 torpedo's and i already hate C2 cargo's

the journey home went without incedient and my 1st officer got Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class

.................................................. .................................................. ...

2nd Patrol erm................how can i put this i've had a few problems as in i've benn Killed Twice so i think the Royal Navy have got it in for me

but i'll be back

Hitting the ship (target) at too great an angle will cause a
bounce effect (torpedo wasted). The C2s are easy when you
know how & where to hit them. The most effective way is
the magnetic exploder just beneath the hull. It will either kill
them or cause them to go dead in the water with stern part
submerged. CAUTION !! If hey have a stern gun, even if it is
under water, they can still shoot it (realistic, don't think so)
I fell prey to this once. I surfaced and started getting shots
hitting me. Come to find out this gun was firing below the
water line. Shells coming out of the water hitting me. Well,
in games you learn things not realistic. Now I am cautious
about any gun that is on a non-dead ship, surface or submerged.

wahey Partol 2 was Amazing !!!

U31 Sank 9 Ships !!!

No Duds

1 Miss

1 costal merchant by Deck gun

then Patroled Al36 again god that's a long way to go

then headed towards the channel

on the surface at night then the Lookout shouts "Ship spotted sir"

Scan the convoy with the scope No Convoy Protection , or so i thought (must remeber to look more carefully next time)

2nd victim is a small merchant 1 shot and up she goes

then the words we all dread to hear "we've been detected Sir"

damm were did that Warship come from scan around and there she is another Flower Corvette , jeez don't they llike me or sumthing :rotfl:

so once again 35' hard to port periscope depth and decide to bowshot this one like the last time and it works again

now then very Carefully scan around the convoy decide there's no other escorts to worry about and surface

now coz i had a few problems on my 1st patrol i decide to kill everything at close range so i use the UZO the 1st target is a nice big C3 a 2nd look just before i fire shows it to be flying a neutral flag Damm !!!

the next one i look at is a Small Tanker yep it's a Yank again

so then i line up on a costal merchant wahey i can sink this one i torp in the guts and she breaks in half so that's 3 down

next target is a C2 Cargo so being a bit worried about wasting torpedo's after another ship ate 3 of em and still floated away i close to 320m and let her have it Result she goes down with 1 hit

Target 4 is another C2 same procedure except she's another greedy ol cow an takes 3 hits before finally blowing up

Target 5 is a T2 Tanker thankfully 1 torp splits here in half

yet another C2 Cargo 1st Torp misses by a country mile my fault got a little excited 2nd torp does it's job and down she goes

i check my 6 (180') and a Costal merchant appears just at the right time so tube 5 sends here to the bottom

then another Costal merchant hoves into View after a few adjustments she is sunk with 1 torp

and Lastly i use the rest of fish on yet another C2 Cargo

Apart from the Corvette all the ships were sunk on the surface

1 crew member got Promoted

2 Iron Crosses 2nd class for 2 others

9 u boat Badges

1 U boat war Badge

oh and a gong for me aswell

never got D'C no injurys home for Breakfast at kiel and a hot bath there again atfer almost 8 weeks at sea it was a bit stale in that Tub but she got us home again

p:s yep the Weather was awfull again

Default Patrol 3

Left Keil on 23/11/1939

Patrol grid heading meant sailing through the English Channel (oh great) so spent a lot of time submerged

finally got to my Patrool Grid did the 24 hours with no contacts decided to head towards Liverpool (again , hey it's amain Sailing from to Port for the enemy)

Contact reported tracked the contacts for a while hads the Ocassional look through the scope

Eventually spotted a nice big fat T3 Tanker , fired from 370mtr's whump blimey he miust have been full of fuel Massive Explosion .

Next up was a T2 he took 3 Torps before finally sinking

then a C2 Cargo 1 torp and it broke in half so maybe carying ammo i suppose

then all hell brok loose and the Next 2 hours i was playing hide and seek with VW Warship got my 1st taste of being Depth Charged i'd dive to the bottom 50 mtr's switch off the engines run silent and sit there and sweat the bang , bang , bang he's suomehow find me again ,

got fed up with being used for target practise so on his next run i waited till the last moment put on full starboard rudder and back Emergency , this seemed to loose him for a while i quickly got to Periscope depth and imediattley came upon a C2 Cargo so quickly fired a Torpedo and then ran straight at him .

the VW was giving chase the C2 didn't sink (suprise suprise) but had stopped dead in the water.

Rembering something one of my uncles had told me i slowed down and slipped U31 underneath the C2 put the engines in full back and managed to stop underneath the ship .

After 4 hours the VW finally gave in and dissapeared i slipped away quitley and as a thank you to the C2 Cargo sunk her with my bow tube

Damage to U31 was minor i still had half my Torpedo's left so carried on northwards .

the next contact was very near the english coast in Shallow water (25mtr's ulp)

Yet another C2 Cargo was fired upon and the Topredo just bounced off the side of her nice 90' shot from approx 450 mtr's so i fired again this time it hit and she started to slow down then "we've been detected" again ah no not again i looked around another flower class corvette where did he come from I had 1 tube loaded only and 2 external reserves left "yer right i'm going to surface and load those not" so it became a cat and mouse chase in and out of the convoy trying to shake him . eventually i got fed up and decidedto surface.

Mad idea i know as U31 started to rise the 1st shell hit i managed to get my gun crew on deck and almst imdeiattley another shell hit us again

then we replied the 1st shell caught the corvette on the bridge as my gun was re-loading no return fire so we fired again then the corvette hit us again U31 was sailing so well and we steered ourselves behind the corvette so she couldn't use her forward armanant on us 5 more shells and she finally belw up.

then using the deck gun we sank

1 x T3

2 x Small Merchants

2 x C2 Cargo

1 x small Tanker

2 x costal merchants after loading the reserve torpedo's

oh and 1 neutral ship aswell

finally got back to port on the 6/1/1940

Awards

4 Iron cross 2nd class

1 iron cross 1st class

1 iron cross gold

17 u boat badges

1 Promotion

76% hull ok

no one died again either

weather home was awfull , but lovley when we needed to use the Deck gun

no torpedo's left

no HE Shells either

No Armour Pierceing

just AA Shells but never saw any planes
