Default Too many dual encounters?

I have been transcribing the KTB of my past career, and have noticed a substantial number of independent ship encounters are composed of two vessels. To be specific, five dual contacts out of a total of fifteen, a 33%!
Perhaps that is too many? I have seldom heard of such dual-encounters in the real u-boat war.

If anyone could take a look at his own independent contacts, it could confirm if I simply had some lucky sightings in a row, or if the frequency of these dual contacts should be toned down.

I'm using RuB and the latest Improved Convoys.

Good question. I've not heard of the practice in real life with merchants, but IMO it does make some sense to have double the spotting ability, and also a vessel in trouble could be aided by the other one - picking up crews and offering tows and so on.

Of course, in SH3 you just sneak up and sink both, no?

I'm also using RUb and the newest Improved Convoys, and I've never once seen a dual contact. Perhaps I'm just unlucky, or way over on the probability distribution...

FWIW, I'm still using the stock game's layers - those dual convoys occur a fair amount in that.

In 10 patrols using RUB 1.41, I have only seen 2 dual merchants.
Both were 1 large and 1 small merchant traveling together.
Dispatched them all using widely acclaimed eels....
