Default What is it with me and Carriers?

Ok, perhaps I shouldn't complain because many people here have never seen a Carrier or BB in mid ocean, but still..

1. Many U-boats back (pre RUB) I encountered a bunch of fast warship sounds, I realized what I was pursuing when I got jumped by carrier aircraft........and very soon after that an elite hunter killer group..
Now this was Pre RUB so those Elite DD's had 360 degree, auto tracking super ASDIC and I was.....well......WASTED!

2. The seccond encounter was West of the lower UK and again it was an Escort Carrier wich I actually got in sight.
The bad news: Out of !#@$ Fuel, bad position and 2 torps left wich I couldn't load because of the weather..

3. Then I finally managed to intercept the TF traveling from the upper UK to Murmansk. So I set up a perfect atack position and waited.
After a few minutes I spotted the TF and saw a huge ship..holy crap that is an Illustrious carrier!
I fired 3 torps at her and scored one hit (bow).. Damn premature detonations! I thought she was getting away but I could see the bow sinking so I quickly fired another torp and scored a hit, again near the bow:
HA she's done for I shouted, but wait...why is it still moving so fast?

Riiiiight, 2 holes in the bow section (almost touching the waves) and she's still doing 20??
So there I was, unable to catch up and forced to see it speed away, another failure. !#@#%^

The damage model still needs lots of work..

You do realize something exactly like this happened historically?

I can't remember it from the top of my head, but an escort carrier travelling with the Arctic convoys did get two hits from a u-boat and continued on despite the list, still launching air sorties as before. :hmm:

(can anyone confirm the ship and incident in question here? I don't have the book on me anymore)

Default carriers...

I am running RUB and encountered and sunk 2 Bogus Class Carriers (in 1942) on two seperate patrols. Luckily in bother cases there was no air cover due to either choppy water or the cover of night. Even better, I was able to slip in and splash them without any escort harrassing me.

*blinks @ the historical stuff*

God I love this board... I love all things WWII. My focus has always been the land/air war in Europe, never knew much about the naval war, either pacific or european theater. You guys are too cool...

I dont have Rub installed only the HT mod I also get HK groups and not far away I encounter either a Carrier group or a BB group
the BB group sailin away most of the time at 28 Knts the carrier group I can't understand when I get spotted or take out 1 or 2 aircraft there escorts come for me at 34Knts I doubt at that speed they would detect anything but the carrier is still doing about 14Knt.
But what do you do? waste your fish on the escorts or tr7y get the carrier if the HK group is near your not going get anywhere near the carrier or BB especially in 43 onwards.
