Default Cowardly Escorts

I was playing the " Happy Times" mission. Things were going well, I had sunk the armed merchant with a magazine hit , a T3 and put another fish in to a second T2, which didn't sink. A stern shot at another T3 from 1200 yards sent him to the bottom. I managed to get a fish in to the bow of the troop ship, which kept plowing forward but with an ever increasing bow list. So by this time I had caught the attention of the 4 or so escorts who failed to pick me up, but nevertheless ran around madly dropping cans all over the place.

So I started to tail the troopship, by the time that night fell the only fish I had left were the external ones, the troopship was on it's own, no escorts at all so I decided to finish her off with my deck gun. Now I had been following her with sneaky cam, and as her bows were even further under water (to the point the rudder was visible) I figured that the rear 4 inch gun would be useless and the only other weapons were 20mm's up front, as it turned out a quick check of the stern gun showed no body home ! so a stern attack was in order. I figured that I would have about 5 minutes at least before the escorts came after me, so I surfaced and started my attack, as the minutes ticked by and I put more shells in to the doomed ship, I kept wating for a message to say we were under attack, that messsage never came !.

The troopship went down and I checked my six, lots of ships a couple of thousand yards away, but no escorts, could this be possible I said to Gunther (my faithfull indian companion) have those cowards run and left the convoy on it's own ? Left full rudder, ahead 2/3's, lets go hunting Tonto... err.. Gunther, "Surely your not serious " came the reply, I am serious, and don't call me Shirley !

So in to this rich hunting ground we sailed. This should bring the escorts down on us, so I started firing at a big C3, 7 shells and no sign of the escorts, more rounds in to it, then I saw one of the escorts, I put a shell in to it and a large explosion followed, no reply from his guns, are they blind ? another shell hit him and another, were are the others ? So I started shooting up the convoys two more T3's fell to my guns and a small merchant, then I spotted the escort again 5 more shells in to him and he didn't even try and ram me, neither did any of the merchants who were now just sailing all over the place in complete disarray.

Finished up with 80,000 plus tons.

What's with those escorts ?
