Default Wouldn't it be cool if...........................

This is for the UBI guys. No trash talk from me just praise Here is an idea though. :hmm: In SHIV could yall make all the theaters playable? You know what mean, Jap, American, and of course German. I would love to hunt down Jap ships in the pacific or German Com. raiders in the Atlantic. I always wanted to drive an old Gato class boat. Hey if ya wnat to go a head and add WWI to the thing and make it a two war sim. Anyway thought I through in my two cents worth.

Thanks for the great sim,
Joshua

Whatever that new game would be, all I want is for it to be moddable..

I would rather have 1.5 patch first, then SH IV

My game is so heavily modded that if they released a patch 1.5 I would scream. With all the awesome mods, I hope they don't release another patch. Actually, it has already been stated there will be no more patches.

With that said, I would like to see a WWI sim. I'm more interested in the Atlantic battles than the Pacific. Also, how would they successfully do a Pacific sim? The Japanese sub force wasn't that good. Would there have been enough activity to keep the game historical, yet enjoyable, especially with a dynamic campaign? WWI has never been done for a sim. I really hope the devs give that one a chance.

that is why you uninstall and reinstall then 1.5 then mods besides sh3 is only 75% done in my opinion

all they really needed to have done was to release the model file editor/convertor they promised to include in the game- and then folks could have an absolute field day doing just about anything you could imagine with the sim---the campaign engine can cope with any theatre any where any time (apart from the missing Krieg map grid areas-but that's not a problem if your thinking of Brit/american subs in the pacific etc- minor quibles with assigning the patrol zones but very minor given the ability to actuall run a pacific campaign with unique authentic sub models etc--)

LOL i know (and it usually gets me shot down in flames -this suggestion)
i'd enjoy a Spanish Armarda era sailing warship conversion lol-- all realism problems aside (and there would be plenty of those -too many to mention really :rotfl: ) BUT having the ability to model in detail the fighting galleons of the era (with the below decks areas as well and crew!!)
would more than make up for the obvious realism traumas--

i'd put up with all of them just to be able to pop away at enemy galleons with the deck gun (nicely modeled to look like a period cannon--) even if it was maddeningly non historically accurate--it would be emmense fun- and trying to find ways round all the glaringly obviuos problems would keep me away from the telly for a long time!

Why not just play Pirates of the Caribbean?

WWI sim OR (my first choice) an Early post WW2 era, may be 50-60s or so. First Nuclear powered boats, many boats like rip-offs of the Type21 that Allies enjoyed making.

Basically the graphics and ease of access that DW has, but with the time period of early nuclear and large diesel boats. Of coruse this will be a Cold War type of thing, but for example there could be missions like the Cuban Missile Crisis, etc... Action wise, the WW2 is best of course and attracts much more casual gamers than DW for example. So I can understand why they focus on that period. .. But still, if they at least left the game moddable - that we could make our own Sh3 Cold War edition or whatever, with implemented Sub vs Sub warfare.

Dream on, for now.

but it's much more fun if you can make the ship models your self etc and take advantage of SH3's wonderfull atmosphere--building the galleons would be a really interesting project--not to mention all the ports etc!!

i do have "Pirates!" but haven't gotten round to installing it yet--(fraid it going to be another star force failure to read disc job)

japanese sub force wasnt good??

good yes! (they had some of the best equipment! tell me of any other country that has a torp that could go 20,000 yards at 44 kts!)

BUT!!!! they had a VERY bad doctrine, nobody ever said sink on sight!

Just to be clear...

There's Pirates! by Sid Meier, and there's Pirates of the Caribbean, er, not by Sid Meier.

The game Sid made:

Supremely addictive
Fast paced
Open-ended game play
Historically-based ocean map
Direct control of one ship at a time

The game not made by Sid:

Addictive, as well
Slower paced
Open game play guided by story-line in key places
Fictional map, but every part of map is exporable in 3D 3rd person
Can control multiple ships

Personally, I prefer Pirates! over POTC, but POTC has a sort of primitive interaction with the ship that's not unlike SHIII, in that you can look over the rails, and walk around your ship, move the sails around a bit, and aim and fire your cannons manually.

Personally, I would want to see a Napoleonic-era sailing game, a cross between SHIII and VirtualSkipper3, with a dash of Pirates! and some Total War thrown in for good measure.

i don't think that it matters so much which war you fight (Atlantic, Pacific, WWI, WWII, Cold, Falklands)... or which side you fight on (German, Japaneses, British, French, Argentinian, American, Canadian, Russian)... or whether you're on top of the waves (DD)... or beneath the waves (SS, SSN, SSBN, SSK, PL, PLK,PLA, PLARB, SSG, SSGN)...

... but i think that the lack of actual hands on involement of the operation of the submarine or destroyer is what might be the root cause of any discontent.

i mean... i could play SH3 all over again... or SH4 Pacific as a Japanese submariner (they weren't as bad as you might think)... or a SH6 in the cold war without a lot of shooting... if only i had some hands on control of the sub or ship i was on...

you know what i mean... turn the wheel to move the dive planes... flick a few switches to open and close ballast tanks... move around the compartments in the sub... stuff like that...

to have a sea that's so noisy and unfriendly... that, at times you'd prefer to be below decks, nice and warm and quiet... instead of on the bridge looking at stuff... that would be nice...

and a pitching and rolling deck... one that could make you sea sick at times... one that would pitch and roll you around so much as to make you beg to the skipper take er under...

a ladder to go down.. from the bridge to the control room...

a bunk i could crawl in... with a privacy curtain

stuff like this is what would be cool... otherwise, to me... it's all the same thing... no matter what sub you're in, no matter what war you're fighting...

D key... we're diving... wooop eeee... don't get me wrong... i'm not complaining or anything... we've had a lot of fun with SH3... more than with any sub sim to date...

... but i think some of us might need more.

more of the real thing... not more of the same ole same, set in different eras...

btw... that's a great looking Sturgeon model up there...

I would be intrested in a Japanese mod, there is plenty of history for single missions, Attack on Peal Harbour, Shelling of mainland USA, mini sub attck on Sydney, Australia, sinking of USS Yorktown at midway, planned attack on the panama canal.

To have the best torps and optics of the war at your disposal would be a blast.
