Default Why would the Dev's request modder's models if SHIII is done

Origionally posted by Berry:

Quote:
The developers have sent word through the Subsim.com grapevine that they are putting the call out to the mod community for high-quality mods and 3D models for possible inclusion in a future version of the game. Here are the restrictions for 3D models:

For ships and planes, these are the restrictions:

Battleships - 35,000 poly

Destroyers - 25,000 poly

Merchants:

- 10,000 poly - small

- 15,000 poly - medium

- 20,000 poly - large

Planes - 3,500-4,000 poly

It's important that all the work should be done by the community. All submissions must be the mod-maker's own work - please do not use copyrighted work or models found on the internet. The developers will add the best models in the game and the mod-makers will be added to credits in the special thanks section. Details of where to send the mods will follow.

The developers hope that everyone will enjoy this task for the community.

This post was made a sticky in this thread:

http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=35175

I didn't want to HIJACK the original "Sticky" Thread but I want to know why the "Dev's" put out the word that they are "Looking for Modders" to include their work in a "Future version" of the game if there is to be, "NO FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF SHIII"????

I really wish they'd reconsider an expansion pack that this sim sooo desperatley needs.

Heck they could have most of the work done for them, by the very talented modders out there.

Probably a specualtion, as that implies the game format is opened up and they put new models into it. Unlikely.

u may find this of interest ... Ubisoft announced its line-up for its new fiscal year (April 2005 - March 2006) and in it is Silent Hunter 4.

"Q4 (January - March 2006)
- Silent Hunter 4 (PC)"

OK, thats interesting, but to you think that means that there will be no more SH3 stuff?

I really hope they could fix this big things in the game like wolfpacks etc. in a add-on as they have promised.

I like being skeptical with these kind of things. But being in an official lineup, it may be possible. However, I don't think it'll have a new graphics engine, or some other premium things, but for sure it could be kinda big-patch for the features we already have. And maybe that time we could get that desired SDK.

Fix big things like wolf packs? Please, I'd like them to fix IMPORTANT bugs and broken features first. Such as the ridiculous 8km visibility, the wonky spotting algorithm, the XXI boats, campaign oddities, a proper manual plotting method. Wolf packs is really only a hollywood feature which would lend no real gain to gameplay.

it seem's strange to me that there releasing SH4 so quickly considering that there was about a 2yr wait from SH2-SH3 perhaps it's going to be nothing more than an addon?i don't really know why an expansion couldn't be made. sadly there's no info forthcoming

One can dream.

There's no money in SubSims, so I am surprised there have been as many SH releases as there have been, although it was left alone for many, many years before 2 && 3 finally came to be.

I fully expect any future installments to be buggy and poorly tested as well.

If SHIV is nothing more than a seperate/independant game, using the SHIII engine, and released 1st quarter 2006, I can pretty much guarentee that there will never be any Official Addon to SHIII.

Maybe UBI feels instead, that they can make a better return on investment in the Asian market, with a Pacific Sub sim, rather than expand SHIII? :hmm:

Would be a real shame.

Well, I wouldn't mind so much if they added all of the Pacific ports and also keep all of the European and eastern North American ports.....

I also wouldn't mind too much if they did use the same engine and most of our mods work in SH4......

I don't totally agree. However, SHIV's production costs are greatly reduced due to having the same game engine as was the case with the IL series.

Hopefully it will have improved gameplay aspects that can be integrated into SH3, even if it's for a different theater. AI torpedo attacks would be nice, not to mention interactions with freely-moving submarines...

It was an "etc" added too. So I agree with your wishes too and I think we all want a better quality on the game! That's the main point here? Isn't it?
