Default Warships Antiaircraft-Guns-Upgrade Mod Download

In SH3, some ships do not get their AA-armament upgraded during the war. In fact, due to the increasing threat from aircraft, all navies upgraded the AA-weapons. I have done some modifications to the ships files, to get them closer to their historical armament. At first i upgraded the german ships, with the yet unused 20mm Quadruple. I am on testing that, to get them balanced. Available for download this evening. Later, i will also take a look at the Allies ships.

Download here (zip file)
http://rapidshare.de/files/5239128/AAupmod.zip.html

The Type 34 destroyer will get 1 20 mm Quads in 1942 in lieu of her
aft 20mm.

The Bismarck Battleship, in the game with very tiny AA-guns, will get 8 37mm Doubles in their historical positions, and later some 20 mm Quads. I also added a 20mm gun to her funnel. Indeed she had one there, but in the game she will lose 2 of her 5 searchlight instead.

The Hipper class is armed only with 37mm Double - that is neither historical nor effective (in the game). I gave her a mixed armament of 37mm doubles and 20mm guns, changing to some 20mm Quads later.

Also this is mostly an optical mod, it will also effect game play when enemy airplanes attacking you harbour. Use Rubini's Mod for example and maybe you will notice the increased firepower...

When enemy ships get better AA-guns you will also take more damage in close action. I would like to give the Elco a Bofors gun, but i do no know if the boat was in fact armed with one. But i think when doing this, the player will be more cautious, when falling in with them

The S-100 Boat was in fact armed with 37mm guns and some with 20mm Quads. I changed her original third 20mm gun to 37mm Doubles and 20mm Quads in 1942.

For Download this evening

This seems good!

Mind if I integrate it in Improved U-Boat if all goes well?

Have you checked my Think them all mod at Terrapin's site?
It changes dinamicaly all flaks and other guns throught the wartime in ShIII. I am to add fixed flaks at merchant ships as well as add Flakvierlings, thanks to you, in 2.0 Hope you will like it.

Commander1980 - do release your mod and develop it please. I am unaware as to how historical and balanced the 'sink them all' mod actually is.

Elcos were armed with Bofors cannon later in the war, although I do not know what date they began carrying this armament.

Thank you for that information! It is likey that it was in late 1943, when several british Warships were equipped with 40mm Bofors in lieu of the pompoms.

Commander1980, YES, please release your AA mod as a stand-alone mod with just the the increased AA firepower. Many players
here don't want to get it in a package that may contain things
they are unsure of, like me. I am in a campaign now and don't
want to install some large unknown package just yet because
it may make too many changes but your AA only mod would
suit me just fine at this point in my campaign....

okay - wait one hour I found different websites with interesting information. I also found, that the Elco was armed with 40mm guns from 1943 onwards. In a testmission i get in serious trouble with three Bofors-armed Elcos, shooting me down to 62%.

If they limited the number of elcos around ports (doing a surface run through gibraltar is near damn impossible with 10 elcos shooting at you), then I suppose it would be good to actually arm the elcos with something effective, and would make the human submerge....

Finally, available for download (at bottom).

Unfortunately, there are not enough nodes to make the armament more accurate - although there is plenty of room and some parts of the ships are modeled to take a node! There is also a bug with the Bismarcks aa-gun-nodes behind the B and C turrets, they won't fire in most directions! That goes to the developers....

i used several nice websites for information about the armament upgrades:
Elco: http://www.ptboats.org/20-05-05-drawings-002.html
Bismarck: http://www.schlachtschiff.com
Tirpitz/Prinz Eugen: http://www.kbismarck.com/

The changes i made:
> Hipper Class Heavy Cruiser

6 x 37 mm Doubles
-> 1943 the 2 forward mounts change to 20 mm Qauds

2 x 20 mm Twins (funnel)
-> Feb. 1942 2 x 20mm Quads

Searchlight-Top-bridge
-> Jan. 1942 to 1 x 20 mm Quad

Screenshot in 1943

> Bismarck Class

-> 8 x 37 mm Doubles

2 x 20 mm Twins (Bridge)
-> 1941 to 2 x 20 mm Quads

(Funnel-Searchlight) 2 x 20 mm Twins
-> 1943 to 2 x 20 mm Quads (Tirpitz-style)

> Type34 Destroyer

1 x 20 mm Double
-> 1942 to 1 x 20 mm Quads

> Elco aka the new "Troubleboat"

-> 1 x 2pdr 37 mm (PomPom)
-> in 1943 to 1 x 40 mm Bofors

> S-100 boat

1 x 20 mm Single
-> in April 1940 to 1 x 20 mm Double

1 x 20 mm Double
-> in April 1940 to 37 mm Doubles
-> in 1942 to 1 x 20 mm Quad

@Soviet_Warlord: I was in an XXI in that testmission. I think when you have a deckgun, you can deal much better with them Nevertheless, you'll take real hull-damage when they hit you, not only light damage to your guns.

Excellent work, downloading now.

Are you going to make the allied ships more historically- accurate too? I usually only get a good look at the ships of the enemy (that I am about to sink) then the German boats.

I will take a look on some allied ships, too. There was of course more difference, even in one class. For example some Flower-class-members had an unshielded gun and different AA-armament. That can be done very easily.

Download Rubini's excellent harbour mod and you can see some more of the german ships, also in action, when the harbour is attacked
