Default SH3 Freezes

I have added a second HD drive that is a SATA and it works fine.

If I enable the new drive and install SH3 on it, SH3 freezes soon after starting a mission.

SH3 works fine on my original drive if the new drive is not enabled in BIOS.

All my drivers are up to date.

Does anyone know how to get SH3 to work on my new HD?

Thanks

So if I am understanding this correctly you have SHIII installed on both drives? If so that might cause a conflict perhaps? Maybe you could/should try to install it only on the new drive?
Not sure this is it though, just "thinking" out loud... :hmm:

I had SH2 installed like this on my old PC, if I'm not mistaken I had to rename the folder for the second installation, something like SSH3, but that was using WindowsME, I have XP now so things might be different.

Thanks but its not as simple as that.

I only have a single installation at any one time.

Scenario 1
I enable new HD in BIOS and install SH3 only on new HD - result. freeze soon after starting any mission. uninstall SH3

Scenario 2
restore BIOS normal defaults so that PC no longer recognises new HD. Install SH3 on existing HD and SH3 works fine!

This is obviously not ideal - I am running out of space on existing HD and dont want to have to go into BIOS whenever I want to play SH3

Thanks

Default Stuttering

I am having stuttering issues...Usually when I am on accelerated time on the F5 map view. It doesn't freeze up, but it gets SLOW

My PC

3.6 Ghz
NVidia 6800 GT PCIExpress
2Gig Ram

Any Ideas?

Everyone gets that.

When you run at 1024 it runs really dodgy and your mouse stutters across the screen.

Try restarting your computer before playing SH3, and opening it first when your computer comes on, thus all your system memory is used for the game only.

Thanks a bunch, I will try that! If I go higher in resolution will it still be dodgy?

Thanks

Do you mean higher in acceleration?

The higher the acceleration the faster your CPU has to calculate every single ships path and actions in the world.

hi RSGodfrey,

maybe it´s a problem with your sata driver or the new hdd is broken in some way.
-Do excessive testing with the new drive (not only scandisk)
use a diagnostic tool that boots from floppy (ontrack, IBM dft)
-update drivers for your sata controller.
-take a look at the S.M.A.R.T. status of that hdd (many tools can do this, try everest it has other useful funktions)
-change datacable, the sata connection is crap and not mature
