Default The Unfortunate tale of U-27

There I was, Fresh install of SHIII. Rub installed as well, to boot.

She was a pristine beauty, Flag flapping in the wind that managed to breach the walls of the sub pen. My crew looking at me eagerly as we set off on our way.

I pointed out to Hans that he should probably be looking out to see instead of at my face, then retreated to my bunk, Chopin playing gently over the gramophone.

Fast forward to grid AM46.

Submerged and listening for our first contact of the patrol, tensions were high, hopes low. We had not seen a glimpse of anything apart from a few Luftwaffe and a couple of german shipping merchants.

I was pouring myself a coffee when I heard the words that changed our hopes.

"Merchant, sir! 90 degrees, medium speed and closing!"

After wiping the coffe out of my lap, I headed to the periscope to see if I could see anything.

"Johan, I've got nothing. Set a course to intercept."

"Aye sir."

A while later, she came into view, A C3, bobbing along like a bulbous whale.

"Johan, order the crew to prepare themselves, and set us up for intercept."

"Aye..sir."

I went to pour myself another coffee. and try to steal an orange when No one was looking, when i heard a shout from the hydrophones.

"SIR! WARSHIP, 175 DEGREES, MOVING FAST AND CLOSING!"

Oh crap.

"SIR! MAKE THAT TWO!"

Oh crap.

"SIR, MAKE THAT THREE!"

Mommy?

I order silent running and a 90 degree turn to starboard.

No luck, they must of spotted the periscope. Why didn't I look around instead of focusing on the whale?

"Depth charges in the water, Sir!"

Pah, Miles away.

"Turn 20 degrees to port."

"Er, Sir?"

"DO IT!"

"Aye sir."

*CRUNCH.*

The sound of tearing metal screamed through my ears. Water began running down my back.

I'd forgotten about the merchant.

All hands lost. Despite valiant efforts from the crew.
