Hi!
I thought I saw a mod which switched the English ranks of Captain and Lieutenant, and so forth, for the German Kaptaine and Ubergrappenfuhrer etc. But I'm struggling to find it thread again. ![]() Would be most grateful if someone could point in the right direction. Cheers! |

*know-it-all-mode-on*
Just to clarify: The rank is written "Kapitän" (or written with an English alphabet without Umlaut: "Kaptiaen") However the captain of a uboat usually held the rank of "Oberleutnant", "Kapitänleutnant" (Kaleun) or higher like "Korvettenkapitän" Generally no matter what his rank is, he is referred to as "Herr Kaleu" or "Herr Kaleun" similar to the English tradtion to call anyone in command of a ship "Captain" The other one you mentioned should be "Obergruppenführer" which roughly translates into "Chief Group Leader" and is an SS rank and certainly not applicable to the navy ![]() *know-it-all-mode-off* ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thank you for the corrections to my German!
The mod I was attempting to allude to had all the correct ranks in all the correct places.. I guess noone remembers the mod. ![]() Or perhaps I imagined the whole thing ![]() Would you be able to suggest a file wherein I might find the ranks and then I can use the Wikipaedia link and mod it up myself? Cheers again. |

Go to /data/menu and look for the en_menu.txt and de_menu.txt files. Lines 160-174 should look like this:
160=Matrosengefreiter 161=Matrosenobergefreiter 162=Matrosenhauptgefreiter 163=Bootsmann 164=Stabsbootsmann 165=Stabsoberbootsmann 166=Oberfähnrich z. S. 167=Leutnant z. S. 168=Oberleutnant z. S. 169=Oberleutnant z. S. 170=Leutnant z. S.; Oberleutnant z. S. 171=Oberleutnant z. S.; Kapitänleutnant 172=Kapitänleutnant; Korvettenkapitän 173=Korvettenkapitän; Fregattenkapitän 174=;Kapitän z. S. |

You could really go all-out and choose German as the text language (in addition to the voice language, which I recommend to everyone). Then all your menus, and text messages from the crew will be auf Deutsch.
