Blimps were used extensively (and quite successfully) by the US Navy during WWII to help escort convoys and keep a look out for U-boats. I haven't seen any mention of them in the forums, so I guess that they're not in SHIII? (Haven't been to the US in-game, yet.) That'd bee a cool add-on.
