Hi All,
This is my first post, although I have been reading the forum pages off and on for about a month - I am stunned by this sim, and first off I would like to thank all the modders out there for some incredible work ![]() ![]() I got SH3 at the end of July (Birthday treat!) and so far have been taking it steady - doing the training, taking exams and trying the single missions out. I was getting a hell of a lot of those lock-ups with the sound getting stuck in a loop so was reluctant to start a campaign until I had got that sorted (changing my Ram chips seem's to have cured about 90% of them!) looks like I just have to put up with the odd one or two that come along now. Anyway I've digressed a bit sorry! - Now I have started a campaign (still doing my first patrol) I was wondering why I keep getting Radio messages from Bdu telling me to be more aggresive! Uh! why? I got the first one when Kiel was still in sight - I had only just left port - what's that all about then? ![]() ![]() Also I was wondering how rough does the weather get in this sim? The water in this sim is stunning and I was gob smacked when I played the Bismarck single mission as all the others had fairly calm weather. Does it get as rough as in Das Boot when U96 meet Thompson's boat? or like in those pictures in another thread here, or is the Bismarck mission as rough as it gets? I guess I will find out in time but I thought I would ask you old sea dogs up front ![]() Cheers for taking the time to read this lot! (P.S. I also need to learn how to put pictures in my auto sig like the rest of you clever Bods)

Here`s a pic that was taken on 15m/s wind. When it is raining and the fog is heavy, you can`t see 300-400m further.

Thank's for the quick replies - and you are correct Drebbel about the status reports! As it is my first patrol I thought I should send updates so that BdU knew I had left port and would have a fix on my position, etc. Now I know to keep my mouth shut until I have sunk something
![]() Dowly - thanks for the screen shot - looking forward to seeing some rough stuff - LOL

Yeah. You have to see your boat being tossed around, sometimes completely covered by a wave, and then surging out into a trough, to really appreciate it.

Last night I was tracking a convoy in a very bad storm with heavy rain, lightning and big waves. It wasn't possible to get either periscope to lock on to a target for more than a few seconds. Fun and games!

The biggest swells I've seen in the game were close to 20ft - that's nearly 40ft from crest to trough - taller than a Type VII U-boat.

Umm i can say to you, and many here will agree. ENJOY IT! You will be stuck in a Storm. Storms, in the game, Silent Hunter III. They will mess with your mind. Try hunting a convoy in a real storm. Vision to about 20 metres from the end of your ship. When you see a merchant, he will instantly fire on you. You will go to depth, and then lose him. Then OUT OF NOWHERE! A destroyer will apear, fire on you, then vanish! Spend an hour launching torps that miss, making corrections that fail, and take hits that cost you men, and man o BLOODY MAN, will you ever pray for clear seas. |
