Hi, I'm in the october 43' on a fantastic "D2", my problem is that I have installed the bolt but, i don't know to use corretly.
I have tried to use it when i have been pinged by DD but, it's too late. Now I ask if someone can tell me, which is the best use of this important sistem. Thanks in advance ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The idea is to put the BOLD decoy between you and the destroyer, so that the noise of the BOLD will mask your presence.
Here's how I do it... If any sub veteran knows better then please speak up ![]() I release the BOLD immediately after the destroyer has made its first attack run (hopefully I survived!). He cannot hear me at that time, so I can use this moment to deploy the bold, change my heading and depth and go to silent running. If all goes well, when the destroyer turns back for a second attack he will pick up the sound from BOLD while I am slowly creeping away. Also, I don't think BOLD was very effective in reality or in the game, so better keep silent and deep just in case...

I thought that tha bold (bold not bolt sorry) it was better use before the firt attack by DD.
Generally you use it after the first bomb attack by DD ? It's correct ? A last question, i think that the bold cover my submarine sound and i can use my full speed for run away, without problems for 5/8 minutes? It's true ? Awaiting your answer. |

I deploy the bold after the 1st attack run, make a drastic course and depth change and go silent. I think if you are full speed, that noise may be louder than the bold, or it may give 2 targets to go after.

Reinhard 'Teddy' Suhren, (U-564) used the BOLD quite effectively.

I've used the decoys with various results. Thye seem quite effective in the early years, when they are relatively new and the DDs are relatively inexperienced.
I've used them very successfully after I've first enganged a convoy, and sunk a few ships. When I see the DDs coming in my general direction at full speed, I release a decoy as I dive and sneak away. The first decoys (Bold 1) will only keep them occupied for 3-4 minutes I think, so don't release them too soon, or they will run out of steam before the DDs can even detect them. The late ones (Bold 4) last for over 15 minutes, I think, so they will keep the DDs occupied for a long time, enabling you to sneak away. But as always, try to keep a low sonar signature, and turn your tail to the DDs as much as possible. If they catch you on active sonar, they will leave the decoys and come after you instead, since the decoys only emit sound. |
