Default changing ureasonable patrol areas

So, with my IXC, they assign me GR91 . According to my best measure, I can't get back if I do make it there. What files do I go into to change the patrol to something within my range?

If I remember correctly from reading it along time ago (in a galaxy far, far away.sorry) You go into (I am doing it on my computer for the steps) you go into
documents/sh3/data/cfg/careers/nameofkapitan/patrolxx/
scroll down and look for
PatrolArea=xxxx

than change it to patrol area of your choice
patrolxx = your current patrol
PatrolArea=xxxx is what they ordered you to patrol.

I hope I am right, and I just found out I have 22% hull integerity....

Is there a way to change the pool of possible patrol grids? i.e. not changing it every time you have a new patrol, but permanently altering the possible places the game sends you. There has to be a list somewhere.

Oyy I've been sent to GR91 too, lotta fun!...

Thanks Damo1977 for mentioning a way to change patrol-grids.

As an example, I'm on patrol-7 of my campaign, original patrol-grid is AK13. The save-file name is 'P7' (which is in folder '6').

If I open the file 'P7.psc', and change 'PatrolArea=AK13', to PatrolArea=AN83, this works. Then I can patrol AN83 for 24-hours, and will be awarded 500-points renown.

Although when I'm loading my 'P7' save-game, it still states my patrol-grid is the old 'AK13', but the grid-change still works.

After the save-game loads, pressing F8 and the 'Orders' tab works fine, which has the new/modified grid-area, but the 'Briefing' tab still shows the old grid-info. I can't figure out how to change this.

__
Btw it'd be neat to have a mod that changes patrols to 'Special' or 'Dangerous-mission' grid, along with some fictional (text) write-up to be read while loading the patrol, or reading the same in the F8-Briefing page.

Then be awarded extra renown for completing Special patrols. There's lots of dangerous or late-war grids, like BF32 (a bit west of Dover) or the 'dreaded' CG96, east of Gibraltar!

Or maybe patrols with a Primary and Secondary grid, with extra renown for patrolling both.

It'd also be neat to have a few random patrols that start in one's home-base, and be ordered to 'Return to:' another base, and still be awarded 200 renown. Probably easier said than done

It's in Flotilla.cfg. The patrol grids are listed in plain English, and you can simply text edit them.

Anyway, I thought the IX could basically get anywhere on the map and get back again. I once got all the way to grid FM and back again in a Type VII, so I'd imagine that a Type IX could get much further, especially if you cruised along at 5kts or so.

Me too i was supposed to go to GR something. Travelling at only the second speed (12 or 14 knots, don't remember): no way for a return trip. No way. Good wheather too. 5 knots, no sorry not gonna try that, the game is time consuming enough as it is.. .

Type IXC, 10th Flottilla, 42, I think.

But would the superchargers affect fuel consumption? I got the 1500-renown one. It's like, in flightsims, afterburners do, just a tad.

Well, historically Type IXC's did operate there, but only with a Milk Cow coming along to refuel. I think the only boats to operate without support off Capetown were the IXD2's. :hmm:

Firstly, you can try speeds inbetween the 5kts and the 12kts marks. The slower you go, the further you go, so 8kts might get you there and back. In reality, U-boats did sometimes cruise along at very slow speeds to save fuel.

Secondly, superchargers do affect fuel consumption.

Just checked the file, and there are a whole bunch of GR (Capetown) numbers throughout the file, sometimes for Type VIIC boats, which is more than a bit ridiculous. I might have to do a bit of tweaking.

With that in mind, does anyone have any info on the most common real life hunting grounds for each of the game's flotillas? I know each flotilla basically had an area of operations, but I haven't been able to find any real specifics. If I knew, I could solve these anomalies and make the game more realistic at the same time.

Well I do appreciate the realism issues, don't worry . I just deselect some (and reload a lot ). I'm playing at 79 %, no manual TDC and the weapons officer helps me. He would too you know, he would be sworn to.

You could well achieve your main mission objectives, you would just have to refuel somewhere else, at a renown price of 100 I gather. This is cheap IMO, effectively saving 50 % fuel gives you so much opportunity to pick out some tankers etc. Since there would be milk-cows, NP. Well ok SP.
