Is there any way I can ask BdU for a different grid to patrol?

Short of saving the game and then editing the save game files to a new grid your stuck with it.

You don't HAVE to go to your grid. You just forfeit the points for getting there, and staying there, I think a total of 700. BdU doesn't much care (and would just tell you to Be More Aggressive anyway!

But if you would rather not go somewhere that is going to get you killed, you can simply make up the difference with ships
