How to alter renown?

Can anyone please tell me what file records the current renown for a career?

I wish to deduct some renown for some "Crew purchases" I have made using SH3Comm.

Look in C:\My Documents\SHIII\ folder for you current CO. Go to the Patrol_0.cfg and scroll all the way down to the last entry. The third line from the bottom is DeltaRenown. Change the numbers here and save.
