Default Man dies after 49 hours of computer games

I wonder if he won though... So let this be a lesson, while on a long patrol snack, drink enjoy a meal put the cook to work and I suggest get a cot and submerge and get some shut eye, let the XO get some command time.

Man dies after 49 hours of computer games

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- A 28-year-old South Korean man died of exhaustion in an Internet cafe after playing computer games non-stop for 49 hours, South Korean police said Wednesday.

Lee, a resident in the southern city of Taegu who was identified only by his last name, collapsed Friday after having eaten minimally and not sleeping, refusing to leave his keyboard while he played the battle simulation game Starcraft.

Lee was quickly moved to a hospital but died after a few hours, due to what doctors are presuming was a heart attack, police said.

Lee had been fired from his job last month because he kept missing work to play computer games, police said.
Computer games are enormously popular in South Korea, home to professional gamers who earn big money through sponsorships and television stations devoted to broadcasting matches.

Somewhat O.T.

In before its moved

Very sad to hear. Im sure he had other health issues. Most humans would pass out or collapse into a coma before they "Died from exhaustion".

He could of at least choose a good "current" game.

Edited to add:

Evidently its a Europian thing [Warning questionable content in the headers] http://www.weirdspot.com/index.php/w...ours_non_stop/

He obviously never heard of Phidippides and the battle of Marathon.

Quote:
Phidippides was again called upon to run to Athens (26 miles away) to carry the news of the victory and the warning about the approaching Persian ships. Despite his fatigue after his recent run to Sparta and back and having fought all morning in heavy armor, Phidippides rose to the challenge. Pushing himself past normal limits of human endurance, the reached Athens in perhaps 3 hours, deliverd his message and then died shortly thereafter from exhaustion

Game with moderation, at all times. The advices to get up and stretch a few muscles every hour, are not that silly.

I am not at all impressed by this news.
I died within 4 hours after I started to play SH III at 82% realism...

I think that I have heard this story a while ago already! I'd say that this is an urban legend!

Hmm, Is this an old story or a recent one, as I have heard of this happening to someone before who was either playing counter strike or starcraft.

Anyway, you should not die because you stay awake for 48 hours should you? That said, he may have been awake a long time prior to this stint. I think people do suffer more quickly from lack of sleep than lack of food or water. I hear you will die more quickly from lack of the former.

I used to routinely pull "all nighters" if I had a deadline. Once, I did 72 hours, and having got my work in, went out for beers afterwards but I felt VERY VERY sh*t. You certainly "feel" the strain in your chest and you generally fell tired etc, but you can get a "second wind".

I havent pulled that kind of thing in ages though, I dare not, now I am older.

Many people work long shifts, some younger doctors, very long periods.

Interesting subject though, I would be inclined to think he had an underlying heart condition maybe.

Also, sleep is important for physiological as well as psychological reasons. When you are asleep, your lymph drains from your lower body, the immune system recovers and all sorts of other things happen.

now seriously... is better take a 5 minutes rest after an hour of play

Default Man dies after 49 hours of computer games

The guy probably went for 100% realism and immersion...
Or perhaps he had a dangerous mix of games.
