Hi,
I got annoyed again when i changed u-boat and the game kept the same u-boat no. so i trolled thru U-boat.net and knocked together the following info. (I thought this might be handy, or of some use, when manually changing your u-boat nos. so you could get historically accurate nos. per type) Type Nos. IIA U-1 - U-6 IID U-137 - U-152 VIIB U-45 - U-55 U-73 - U-76 U-83 - U-87 U-99 - U-102 VIIC U-69 - U-72 U-77 - U-82 U-88 - U-98 U-132 - U-136 U-201 - U-212 U-221 - U-232 U-235 - U-291 U-301 - U-316 U-331 - U-394 U-396 - U-458 U-465 - U-473 U-475 - U-486 U-551 - U-683 U-701 - U-722 U-731 - U-768 U-771 - U-779 U-821 - U-822 U-825 - U-826 U-901 U-903 - U-905 U-907 U-921 - U-928 U-951 - U-994 U-1051 - U-1058 U-1101 - U-1102 U-1131 - U-1132 U-1161 - U-1162 U-1191 - U-1210 VIIC/41 U-292 - U-300 U-317 - U-328 U-827 - U-828 U-929 - U-930 U-995 U-997 - U-1010 U-1013 - U-1025 U-1063 - U-1065 U-1103 - U-1110 U-1163 - U-1172 U-1271 - U-1279 U-1301 - U-1308 VIIC/42 None Commissioned IXB U-64 - U-65 U-103 - U-110 U-111 U-122 - U-124 IXC U-66 - U-68 U-125 - U-131 U-153 - U-166 U-171 - U-176 U-501 - U-524 IXC/40 U-167 - U-170 U-183 - U-194 U-525 - U-550 U-801 - U-806 U-841 - U-846 U-853 - U-858 U-865 - U-870 U-877 - U-881 U-889 U-1221 - U-1235 IXD2 U-177 - U-179 U-181 - U-182 U-196 - U-200 U-847 - U-852 U-859 - U-864 U-871 - U-876 XXI U-2501 - U-2531 U-2533 - U-2536 U-2538 - U-2546 U-2548 U-2551 - U-2552 U-3001 - U-3035 U-3037 - U-3041 U-3044 U-3501 - U-3530 Sorry for being anal - but the game annoys me that it can't use a simple database to call up the correct u-boat numbers after you change u-boat type!! Wonderful work there! The only thing that prevents this from being put in the game should be a list of reliable references.

Thanks - i ommitted the commission dates so you pick can pick any number at any time (even if wasn't built until later in the war), as i usually pick house numbers of friends or other numbers that mean something to me!

Up till now I never had this problem. I got 'random' u-boat numbers and checked them on: http://www.u-boot-archiv.de/dieboote/uindex-gr.html, just to find out the numbers are historically correct.
Perhaps this was just coincidence for me, or maybe the developers solved this in 1.4b? :hmm: |

FYI for those running SH3 Commander, this feature is built in: you can select an appropriate U-boat number based on your career's U-boat type and flotilla. That is, if you have a VIIC and you're in 7 Flotilla, you can either choose any VIIC number or only those VIIC numbers that were attached to 7 Flotilla.
At this time, however, true availability dates are ignored. |

![]() Nice pennant list btw. I was under the impression this buglet had been fixed in the 1.4b patch. I tried a lot in the past and never could reproduce it after the 1.4 patch. Too bad it still seems to be there. |

Hi,
Yes i managed to reproduce it, with patch 1.4b (that's why i built the above list) - i switched from a type IIA (U-5) to a type IID and kept the no. U-5 ![]() Yeah i get annoyed about having the same crew, but having a Maths degree - numbers annoy me more!!!!!!! :rotfl: Kaleun |

I'm not using SH3 Commander, but manually made sure I was using boats with appropriate numbers.
I looked through uboat.net and picked boats that were: a) In the right flotilla, and not used by any of the historical U-boat aces. I wanted a boat that WASN'T famous historically. That way, I make my own legend for this boat, not recreating a historical career. Since the scores of all the major U-boat aces are tracked in SH3 and your own tonnage scores listed with theirs, I wanted to make sure that I wasn't using a boat that an ace was using. b) had sunk very few ships at all. Normally that meant picking boats that had been sunk historically on their first few patrols, before achieving anything much. c) where possible, had been commissioned shortly before I take them over in SH3. So, for my Type II in 1939, I picked U-15. (I'm using RuB 1.42, which turns the Type IIA's into Type IIB's.) Staying with U-15 until late August 1940, when I'll switch to a new Type IXB, U-104. Historically, U-104 was commissioned on 19 August 1940 and sailed on her first patrol on 12 November 1940. She was sunk on that patrol after sinking only one ship. But hopefully she won't be sunk that quickly under my command, instead she'll be famous! |

![]() Despite all that, the boat actually had a fairly long career, and made it well into 1944 before being sunk; similar to, or even better than many of the other boats that were lost. The U.S. Navy also had a 666; the SSN 666. Hawkbill was her name (I think). I always thought if they had the 'nads to actually assign that hull number, the name of the boat should have been the Devilfish... :P |
