Default Label for Gulf of Siam

Anyone have a label matching the map to replace the Gulf of Thailand with Gulf of Siam?

Always bothered me the map was lacking in SH 4, I'm doing some work on it for TMO Update, would like to have the historically accurate Gulf of Siam on the map.

LMAO!

As a native of the Gulf Coast, I know nothing of this "Gulf of America", but the Gulf of Mexico, absolutely.

I think the labels are in the form of images, if I remember correctly.

I know from a project I worked on for FS2004 years ago, that the fonts used by the US Gov in WW2 were Garamond for the main body of manual texts, and a form of Antiqua for the italic script. Titles were a form of Futura or Gill Sans.

By today's standards, the closest I can think of with default or available free fonts to install are Garamond, Calibri, and Arial. The Futura and Gill Sans I've found aren't really very close to the originals as the others.

Some later manuals were written in something closest to Arial or Arial Condensed, which would make sense since you would want the typesetting at the printing shops to be as "common" (i.e. similar) as possible.

The closest I can think of for the map stuff would be Calibri, which is a form of Antiqua.

If it's an image, you just pick the color for the text from the old image and retype with Calibri in italics. Then cut out and place letters to suit following the old lettering as a guide.

Hope this helps!

yes, you are correct.

years ago, i was attempting to re-label some of the areas in the Western Pacific. and...i thought it was only a matter of finding the proper .mis file and changing some text. how foolish of me. when i asked PB for some help on find that .mis file, he imparted this information (above) that the labels are all-graphics and it is a ginormous PITA to create/change labels: an indirect kudo to those who have created the mod-sets with labels.

Interesting. I already have many, most were present in SH or in the navmap makeover mod for my TMO update, just not used. They are .dds files, just add to location and save in the campaign.nms file.

For example, I have a SIAM label, but not a Gulf of Siam LOL. Just dded Laganoy Gulf and Albay Gulf in the PI. Map work is quite tedious lol but important, esp in the mod. I want player to consult their maps , not have to google (as I've done many times lmao)

One thing I can do which is how I added patrol area numbers such as Area 14, is to emulate the text much as possible, it came pretty close but I'd like the real deal, if possible.

Keep your "Gulf of Thailand" MapLocation as it is in SH4, but activate this mini-mod on top, and it will change the Gulf of Thailand to show "Gulf of Siam" instead. Just a single dds image in the LocationsMap folder.

Gulf of Siam

Click on the download icon (underlined down arrow upper-right), and then "Continue with download only" at the bottom of the next page. That's a BoxDrop link...
