Working on the Dootlittle support missions I added to TMO campaign in the update.
Since some carriers have planes on deck. Wondering how to get B-25's to load out on the CV have for the Hornet. Eye candy purposes only, but provides immersion when player spots the task force, especially if could place all 16 on deck. Planes on deck can be placed like this: (CV Enterprise, listed as Yorktown Class Fleet Carrier in TMO BH Update) [Equipment 25] NodeName=X01 LinkName=US_Fighter StartDate=19380101 EndDate=19430630 Any ideas if adding the B-25 work? Just spit balling, do not want to waste my time. Of course would likely have to make a clone to be the Hornet for the time period, as would not want both carriers in task group to have B-25's on deck. Small thing but immersion is important in this mod. [Equipment 25] NodeName=X01 LinkName=LBB25Mitchell (?) StartDate=19420401 EndDate=19420418 |

================================== Such missions or events, where the player will hardly see all the action, are garbage in the campaign. Which will simply load the game and that's it. I have long since abandoned such things while working on various mods in the American campaign, German or Soviet campaign. Even such tempting, and essentially senseless events, where the player can theoretically be within the visual range of these actions. For example, the attack of Swordfish on Bismarck, where he received damage to the rudder. Historically, it seems necessary to draw this event in the editor, it kind of fills the mod with a historical event, but in fact, for the game it is sheer nonsense that the player will not see, and historical correspondence cannot even be technically achieved. |

Very easy to do, but you will need to create a custom, static B25 object - just like the static seaplanes and carrier planes on standard SH4 ships. Check the file structure for the US_Fighter object, clone it with S3d editor, make a B25 and assign nodes on the carrier for the Doolittle raiders and you should be all set.
I use the same principle (customized objects with X nodes) to have warships decked out in flags at certain times. Works very well. |

I would disagree, respectfully. Immersion is a key aspect of the mod. Something stock SH 4 lacked was a lot of immersion due to lack of historical accuracy in many aspects such as traffic, battles, events, equipment, map name locations, etc. As we know asubsim is not 24/7 action, so little apparent small things become important. Battle of Leyte Gulf for example, not having the appropriate actions in the sim to start with is a big immersion killer so I recreated the battle and its component actions in the mid within the limits of the sub. So player if find themselves off Samar on morning of 25 October, will encounter the Japanese fleet attacking escort carriers "Taffy 3" and the smaller actions throughout the war in all years. For player to find themselves in such locations and no activity is anti climatic and an immersion killer, or encountering carrier like the Kaga or Akagi after Midway where they were sunk. Or being off coast when a landing took place such as Iwo Jima or Guadalcanal and nothing happening, immersion killer. Far as Doolittle.... player rendezvous with the Task Force, far more immersive to see 16 B-25's on deck of the Hornet when player encounters the task force at the rendezvous point. Other mission may be assigned to recon the target area provide a "beacon", player can see the B-25's coming in low approaching the coast. If want to follow with free camera, can observe them strike Tokyo. |

--------------------------------------------------------------- I understand you perfectly, with respect. And I have nothing against what can be discovered by the player in the game, and even better the player's influence in the game on the event in question. I am against the game spending resources on what the player will not see in principle, or should not see in those historical events that took place during the war. For example, your mission. Yes, in the museum on the aircraft carrier you can see Doolittle's bombers, even in the game the player can see these planes on the aircraft carrier, and how the aircraft carrier delivers them to the launch point. Even if this event is absurd from the point of historical correspondence. You can organize a task related to this mission, and fill it with historical meaning, negotiations of pilots on the air, radiograms, for example, and this will give more effect than the presence of bombers on the aircraft carrier, which the player will almost never see. |
