Default Looking for a book?

I read a number of years ago a story about a U-Boat that was in the paranormal genre, and I cannot remember it. Old age I guess, the story has a sailor walking in a seaport in a heavy fog and goes into a tavern. While in there he starts talking with this group of sailors who tell him a story about a uboat that sinks a ship and the Captain orders survivors shoot in the water. Than I remember things start happening and people are changing somehow. The XO has a main part also , that's as far as I can remember. Has anyone read this story and remember the tiltle please let me know as I would like to read it again?

Threw your question to the AI

Quote:
Based on your description, the book you're recalling is likely "The Night Boat" by Robert McCammon. Published in 1980, this horror novel follows salvage diver David Moore, who discovers a sunken Nazi U-boat in a Caribbean lagoon. When the submarine is raised, it unleashes supernatural horrors linked to its dark past.
Goodreads

In the story, the U-boat's captain had previously ordered the shooting of survivors from a ship they had sunk, leading to a curse that affects the crew and anyone who comes into contact with the submarine. The novel delves into themes of guilt, retribution, and the supernatural, with significant focus on the experiences of the crew, including the executive officer.
"The Night Boat" is available for reading on Kindle Unlimited.

That’s what I thought, but there was something about the crew as I do remember today that ends with that sailor in the tavern at the end of the story. I have just racking my brain about this book.
