I'm checking the external cargo that can be added to the merchants through the mission editor, and while the system is quite easy to understand, I have a question I couldn't find any reference to in the SH3 or SH4 forums
[CargoEntry 1] NodeName=Ext Oil LinkName=Lazi02 StartDate=19380101 EndDate=19451231 CargoType=1 What is that CargoType field? In the stock files it can be 0,1 or 2, but no clue about what it means. Any help would be welcome ![]() |

"Light", "Medium" and "Heavy", if I am remembering correctly - but what THAT refers to, I dunno... There was a note on that somewhere in one of the SH4 or 3 text files, but I can not find the reference of what I am remembering. Perhaps I am thinking of my original v1.01x whatever it was... the one where you lost your home port all of the time, and became The Flying American, never able to dock at home anymore...
![]() All that said, you might contact iambecomelife, if he doesn't directly respond here, and see what he might recall. He has worked on this very subject a few times himself... ![]()

if you know about the next four paragraphs, then i apologize for the repetition. In SH4 and through the ME, certain ships have the capability of varying their internal and external cargo. those two "types" of cargo (internal v external) have separate sets of values. these parameters and values are only valid when used in the MIS files that are generated by the ME. external cargo is limited to three subtypes, freight, ammo, and fuel. internal cargo can have as many as fourteen subtypes, from ext.oil to engine fuel. each set of subtypes is numbered 0 to n. when you see the parameter CargoExt or CargoInt set to a value of -1, that means that there is none. you will see this in the warship entries of the MIS files.

The stock library with cargo has some smaller items that could be used (you know, those smaller merchants whose cargo comes out of the side ![]() Added a SH3 library which has drums, added them for oil and fuel, and voila: ![]() No more External fuel on boxes or cantainers (ignore the vehicles, those are part of the ship .eqp file). Apart from that, my brain has been going round that CargoType field all day, and maybe, bearing in mind which cargo has each type and that there are no .zon files for this library, the 0 means inert cargo (vehicles, food, whatever), the 1 burning cargo (oil and fuel) and the 2 exploding cargo (ammo stuff). But I haven't tested that. But maybe it's just that they didn't add the zones and all this is nonsense ![]() Leaving all this aside, I'm surprised propbeanie didn't come with the proper answer ![]() |

Quartermaster playing Tetris on deck
![]() I think this is doable, but probably easier to get the right result on an .eqp file than the external cargo settled through the editor. |

LinkName is the object in the libraries that is displayed in the game (in the Kxx nodes). In this example, father_AMER is in the cargos.dat library (the original one for SH4). |

Adding this to bump the thread, as I'm still not sure about the question I did in the opening post, in case somebody knows the answer.
Also handy to test the file attachment, which I had never used before ![]() Alex.B SH3 Liberty ship, with some nodes added to accept external cargo. |

In the "digging" I've been doing around files, I've seen what you are referring to.
I'm not too sure, but I believe the original answer by Propbeanie may be correct since it would make sense from a "computer" standpoint where "0" means "nothing". You may want to ask over at the "Wolves of the Kaiser" mod thread as he stated since "ihavebecomelife" has been doing some EXCELLENT work over there with regards to things like this. Hope this helps! Saludos! |
