Icon9 PC dead

Hi.
My PC is dead it was killed by AVAST the very program thats ment to protect. My PC is at moment in repair shop , fingers crossed they can fix it the operating system is at present win7 home premium , and i had the old AVAST which worked well , then it came up for licence renewal , and it would not allow me to renew licence instead they forced me into putting a new version in , well it was nothing but trouble , and last AVAST update i think made it incompatable with win 7 so every time i went to scan PC it locked my PC up , so only way to unlock it was to shut down incorrectly now it cannot even boot up in safe mode hence in shop , just hope they can fix it without destroying my personel files as i was working on 4 XML gauges to replicate the british ww2 R1155 receiver and associate nav gauges for my FSX this project was coming on fine and sofar 4 months of coding , i dont want to lose all this if i can help it so not very happy with AVAST right now.

Good luck with that. Maybe if looking to run an alternate to Win 11 going forward, you might look into a Linux setup? I didn't know people were hanging on to Win 7.

Yes time for an upgrade there probably I believe Steam is dropping support for Windows 7 if it has not already done so. I share your pain a Windows update killed my laptop last week too.

I still have a very well operating XP laptop and all XP apps running very well on it...But I would be very ill-adviced to use it with current security software loaded, with current apps and online.

I also have older Win-7 computers, again all XP and Win-7 programs run perfectly on it, but I use it offline for those programs only - if I happen to have the time and I want to run some 'exclusive' apps that don't run on modern machines with Win 10, Win 11.

Take your Win-7 machine, remove all ridiculous obsolete security software from it, and run it offline only. Use a modern machine for newer apps and online activity.

Greetings,
XS

P.S:
Now I remember, I still have an old Amiga computer from pre-1990, runs perfectly but I hardly use this one because I have emulation sofware en-masse for Amiga programs...
Oh, and I still have the first 'speaking' chess computer too, from 1976 I believe, true original synthetized voice technology...Without securtiy software...It has taken a lot of dust since, so his 'voice' is a bit on the modern rapper style...

I'm using Windows 11, but have customised it with Classic Shell and Win Aero Tweaker; two bits of free open source software that make W11 act and look like Windows 7. I've been using these for years with no issues.

I hated the W10 interface and started using the two progs, and hated W11 even more!

I have the familiar user-friendly W7 interface with the security and updates of W11.

A win-win in my book.

Hi.
I got my PC back in January , with win 10 installed , apparently my PC cannot take win 11 because motherboard does not have the security chip needed .
I have since then beenn slowly getting my programs reinstalled/recovered as best i can , steam and uboat no problem , but getting FSXA reinstalled to the point where i could start flying again , well that has taken longer then expected , not helped by my internt provider who without warning locked me out of my account and email , which i was using to get info on who i purchased products from , with activation codes , it took over two hours on phone to help desk to get logged back into my account , but still cannot get to emails , i have a complaint in over this , which they should have got in touch within 48 hours this was raised on 24th march still no word from them.
my patience is now running low with VirginMedia an i am considdering further action against them , legal action of course before anyone asks.
regards Alan
