Hi All,
Just started playing UBoat again recently since v2024. I'm in my beautiful Type VIIB early war, and while I can effectively hit ships using my bow torpedoes, whenever I use the stern torpedoes they go nowhere near the target. I do my TDC entry via the periscope torpedo pop-up. However, I've noticed at least twice when I go to the actual TDC and change the parallax switch to stern and then enter the rest of the data via the periscope that my torpedo solutions are much more effective. Is anyone else experiencing this, or could it be I've used bad inputs for my few stern shots? Thanks. |

HI dmlavan,
is the TDC manned by an officer or do you create the firing solution manually? If manually, you have to switch to the stern. You can also enter the target data directly on the TDC and have it synchronised (white light, called "Deckung") As long as the white lights are not on, the torps are not synchronised with the TDC settings. Since you are playing with the VIIB, the older TDC is in use (C/37). This is slower than the S3 and is not able to follow the bearing in real time. You should also know that. The white lamps on the UI and TDC are identical in terms of logic. Cheers Ruby |

Ruby - thanks! I do have an officer on the TDC, but I collect the targeting info (range / speed / AOB) myself and manually enter into the UI that comes up in the UZO or Periscope. I'll stick w/ using the TDC myself myself and see what difference it makes.
Appreciate the info about the C/37 TDC. Cheers, dmlavan |

HI dmlavan,
You'll see that it's the same in the end. ;-) Imagine you are at the peri and report AOB 60 deg starboard. The officer at the TDC confirms, sets the value and the white light for the AOB lights up on the peri UI. This means that 60 deg port has also been set on the TDC. Check it, you can switch back and forth between Peri and TDC with the left icons at any time. As the peri is linked to the TDC by default, the AOB is automatically updated. You can of course also deactivate it on the tdc. The transmission and confirmation of other parameters also takes place in the same way. There is also a white light on the Torp UI. This is identical to the white light on the TDC. ("Deckung") As long as this lamp is not lit, the torpedo receiver has NOT received the calculation from the TDC. That is very important! No matter which TDC is in use. The principle is always the same. And the transmission of the values from the TDC to the torpedo receiver corresponds approx. to the actual transmission speed at that time. I still have a few videos somewhere. Also with the use of the boxes under the map table. I'll link it later. The differences between the two TDCs are explained in the UboatPedia. There are also checklists for firing solutions. From a solution on the map to a manual solution. Cheers Ruby ![]() Last edited by Ruby2000; 11-23-24 at 02:38 PM. |

HI,
here are a few videos. Only the firing solution can be seen here and how the devices are used. It should be clear how AOB, speed and distance are determined. Solution on the map https://www.level65.de/lvl0/uboat/vi...locked_map.mp4 Peri UI and Torp UI https://www.level65.de/lvl0/uboat/vi...ed_Torp_UI.mp4 Ship locked and TDC view https://www.level65.de/lvl0/uboat/vi..._Torp_44kn.mp4 Ship not locked and TDC view one torp https://www.level65.de/lvl0/uboat/vi..._Torp_44kn.mp4 two torps (called "Mehrfachschuss", not salve) https://www.level65.de/lvl0/uboat/vi..._Torp_44kn.mp4 EDIT: And one more hint ;-) You can also enter the values manually in the Peri/UZO UI and transfer them to the TDC. These have a green background in the display. But, these values will NEVER be updated by another officer. Who would argue with the skipper! ![]() For an officer to update your manual values again, you must delete them. The officer will then know to take care of the firing solution or this parameter again. Cheers Ruby ![]() Last edited by Ruby2000; 11-23-24 at 02:48 PM. |
