Support Steering gear bug?

I have had this problem happen twice with U-Boats and once with a US Sub.
Call it "Steering gear lockup". I check in the damaged area and nothing shows. But my steering gear won't turn left or right. Even if I hit the bracket keys, it won't turn. The sub just goes forward and back. I am using SH4 Gold downloaded from Ubisoft. Is this a known bug or is something else involved?

Can you run JSGME and use the "Tasks..." in the middle, then "Export activated mods list to..." and paste the results into your next post? Mild mod soup can cause issues. Another is shelling out to Windows from the game. It is very tempting to use the <Win> key and then the calculator, or maybe even view your email while playing, but the game is not a multi-thread aware game, and "gets lost" when you do that when Windows moves its address spaces around. If you have done any shelling out, and notice issues (most people usually will), then do a Save, exit the game, re-load the game, and then load that saved game. You should be back to "normal". Don't forget to set your speed, and "Return to course" after doing that...

without knowing your JSGME config, i would bet that you like to shell out to Windows during play.
