Old sailor returning to game

Hi,

I'm running Win11 (high end amd system) and wanted to see if I can get the old 2005 SH3 running. I couldn't get it to run. So, I downloaded the GWX Onealex Edition 1.53 and started it up. No go. The movie would play then just a black screen. I've tried changing the compatibility to win7, xp, etc. Nothing seemed to work. I was able to make a Wiz Wheel yesterday. I had one back in the day.

My setup is a CH8 dark hero with a xfx 7900 24gb card all water cooled. I would like to play the game in a higher resolution to see if can work. I checked the d3d9.ini file and it has the resolution at 1920 x 1080. I do own the original game with the code in the box.

Any help is appreciated! Good sailing all!

1st Edit:

I was able to get the game running. The game is running in 'widescreen' mode, but it is still cut off a bit on the right side. My monitors (3) are 2560 x 1440. I would like to run the game in 1440p if possible.

2nd edit:
I was able to download another sh3 screen fix and got the game to 2560 x 1440. Now, I have to get the game 'menus' down to size. They are too big and cannot read some of the missing menu.

3rd edit:
I figured it out to a point. I went into the game and ran the 'Generic Mod Enabler'. I used the 'wide MaGui modified (1366 x 768). SH3 ran great, but everything is small. I do have wide screen. Is there a way to fix the aspect ratio of the game? Maybe through the AMD software?

4th edit:
Thanks Gerald! Having a problem with the career part of the game. After I hit 'start', the game loads to about 80% and then CTD. Trying to figure it out.

5th edit:
Is the Onealex modified from the 'old' version or is it for the 'steam' version? Maybe this is my problem??

6th edit:
Still not working. Loads to 100% crashes to desktop. I'm only using the Onealex mod w/sh3. Could it be a 32bit issue with memory? Any help is appreciated.

7th edit:
Downloaded the Onealex russian version and got the game to work one time. Start to crash to the desktop again. When I get back from a short vaction, I'll download the steam version and see if that will do the trick. Any help is appreciated.

There are difficulties with the old games on WIN 11 which I have avoided upgrading to since my WIN 7 machine died. Have you tried just getting a new compatible SHIII from Steam.?

Hi,

I have followed the onealex mod setup. Copied the 'menu' from the onealex english mod to the 'backup' folder in the russian modded version. Fired up the SH3.exe cmd with the properties were set right. Game fires up, but still crashes after loading goes to 100%. Any ideas?

Also, running XFX 7900 xtx 24gb card with the latest drivers. Do I need to setup a profile in the AMD software? Has anyone got SH3 to run on an AMD machine? Any help is appreciated.

I almost deep six'd SH3. I couldn't get the Onealex mod to run. I found another mod called LSH3

. Lots of installing. Works!

Question. Can the mods from Onealex work in LSH3? I can experiment with the LSH3 to see. Any suggestions are always welcomed.

Question... is there a reason why Onealex doesn't work out of the box and LSH3 does? I think it has to do with the video portion of the mods. I'll have to dig into each mod to see what the main difference is. If anybody has this information and would like to share, please let me know. I really would like to know why the Onealex mod doesn't fire up and let me 'Torpedo Los'!

There's been a few reports of problems with the English version of OneAlex lately: https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=255744
It seems to be a recent thing, as OneAlex always used to be a really easy install. I suspect our Ukrainian friend has made a mistake putting the latest English version of the mod together - has he missed off the 4Gb/HSie patch?

The other option is to try Fifi's NYGM enhanced steel coffin. Click on the link on this post https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...postcount=2456

The installation is a bit more involved, but I prefer NYGM because the escort sensors are more realistic (IMHO) and it is a lot harder than LSH.

That makes sense. I'll have to take a look at that. I have a copy of the patch. Hopefully, that's the issue.

There are a whole bunch of patches to sh3.exe which have to be applied in the right order. It's really easy to mess up and really hard to fix someone else's mistakes.
I would advise finding an older (or maybe newer) build of OneAlex, or take a look at his discord https://discord.gg/wSX8t7497P
As a last note, be careful. Russia and Ukraine are at war and there are lots of nasty hackers out there.
