Hi sailors. I am currently playing sh3 on pc. However on a cleaning job in my home, I came a. cross sh4 wolves of pacific which I bought back when it 1st came out. Now the reason for this message

What OS? What directory did you install it to, did you install directx when it asked you to?

Are you running Windows 10 or 11? Silent Hunter 4 doesn't play very well with modern operating systems out of the box, and needs some tweaking. This thread is a good starting point for getting it to work with either OS, along with other tweaks like enabling more memory for the game.
Your CD is almost certainly an older version of it - you can check the version, and if it's lower than 1.5, it's old. We can help you update that, but the easiest way to do it might just be to buy SH4 and the SH4 U-boat missions on Steam. That will get you set up with SH4 1.5 with no trouble. It's $20 for both, so it probably comes down to a time-or-money choice. The good news is, once you get that sorted out, and apply the large memory patch, it runs pretty solidly. I have SH3, 4, and 5, and SH4 is easily the least trouble free for me. |
