Hard to believe but true saved game crash fix...

After getting my GWX mods mix re-worked once again, I tested running careers and found this thing that was crashing a first save out of port. It seems that if I tried to go on patrol in a boat type (VIIB) that was not what the port (Lorient) has as a starting boat (IXB), then the game would crash on the first save out of port. The fix was either to switch to a IXB or to change Lorient to have a VIIB as a starting boat. However, maybe a lot of gamers are skittish about altering game files. Anyway, a rather odd problem. Kind of makes sense in a computer kind of way, I suppose.

Turns out my weird fix was only needed a short while. I don't know what I did but it was nothing major besides adding a few Von Dos ships and making the Lorient escorts docked ships because they keep crashing into the shoreline when returning to port. This happens even in a fresh install. I kept my VIIB Lorient start as an Optional Mod. So now am loading first saved games alright.

Hi Captin Drastic were you using the Commander Mod if so did you have real Uboat Availability Dates Unchecked then you can pick what Uboat you want if you change a setting in the Commander Mod you must click apply for change to take effect.

Thanks blackswan40, you're right about using Commander to do all that, so I can discard my Lorient start mod, but it was fun learning how to manipulate the game files, just for practice.
Also, that thing about game saving and U-boat type is good to find out, even if it doesn't seem to matter at the moment.

Hi Kal_Maximus_U669, It was good to get that advice from your link. I went ahead and set up another install from my fresh install copy, so now I have three installations to work with! I always wondered about using MultiSH3 and did that too. It's all getting together thanks to you and Subsim.
