Default Is Turkey about to go to war in Syria?

Fears Turkey is on brink of all-out invasion as military trucks seen rolling into Syria

Turkey might be just days away from an all-out war with Syria as troops continue to attack northern parts of the country. According to Reuters, "Turkey's army needs just a few more days to be ready for a ground offensive into northern Syria and such a decision may come at a cabinet meeting on Monday".

The commander of the main US-backed Kurdish-led force in Syria said Saturday they have halted operations against the Islamic State group due to Turkish attacks on northern Syria over the past week.

Mazloum Abdi of the Syrian Democratic Forces told reporters that after nearly a week of Turkish airstrikes on northern Syria, Ankara is now preparing for a ground offensive. He said Turkey-backed opposition fighters are getting ready to take part in the operations.

Abdi added that Turkish strikes over the past week have caused severe damage to the region's infrastructure.

Abdi said Turkey is taking advantage of the deadly November 13 bombing in Istanbul that Ankara blames on Kurdish groups. Kurdish organisations have denied any involvement in the Istanbul attack that killed six and wounded dozens.

The US was last night considering a proposal from Boeing to supply Ukraine with small precision bombs which can be attached to rockets - allowing it to hit far behind Russian enemy lines.

Could it help Ukraine push back Russia's invasion and win the war?

"The forces that work symbolically with the international coalition in the fight against Daesh are now targets for the Turkish state and therefore (military) operations have stopped," Abdi said, using an Arabic acronym of the Islamic State group. "Anti-Daesh operations have stopped."

His comments came hours after the US military said two rockets targeted US-led coalition forces at bases in the northeastern Syrian town of Shaddadeh resulting in no "injuries or damage to the base or coalition property."

The US military statement said SDF fighters visited the site of the rocket's origin and found a third unfired rocket.

In a video circulating on Twitter, Turkish military trucks can be seen rolling towards Syria.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, in an early report about the Friday night rocket attack said "the area has been witnessing attacks by (IS) cells." It later said that Iran-backed militias "are responsible for yesterday's rocket fire."

"Attacks of this kind place coalition forces and the civilian populace at risk and undermine the hard-earned stability and security of Syria and the region," said Col. Joe Buccino, CENTCOM spokesman.

The SDF said in a statement before midnight Friday that as Turkish drones flew over the al-Hol camp that is home to tens of thousands of mostly wives, widows and children of IS fighters, some IS family members attacked security forces and managed to escape from the sprawling facility.

The SDF did not say how many escaped but that they were later detained.

Kurdish authorities operate more than two dozen detention facilities scattered across northeastern Syria holding about 10,000 IS fighters.

Among the detainees are some 2,000 foreigners whose home countries have refused to repatriate them, including about 800 Europeans.

Upcoming elections in Turkey, and Erdoghan has crippled both currency and economy. He desperately needs distraction, hence his blocking and harassing of Sweden and Finland, hence war in Syria (of which Turkey never was really out).

Largest reinforcement since Turkish military escalation | Russia, regime and Iranian-backed militiamen bring in military reinforcements to Aleppo countryside

Russian forces set up a military base off a Turkish military base, while Iranian-backed militiamen deployed on frontlines.

Aleppo province: Russian forces have established a new military post in Tel Jijan village in areas controlled by Kurdish and regime forces in eastern Aleppo countryside.

Upon arrival in the village, Russian forces raised the Russian flag and deployed field artilleries in the vicinity of the newly established post.

It is worth noting that Tel Jejan is adjacent to Abla village in Al-Bab countryside, east of Aleppo, which is under the control of Turkish forces and their proxy factions, where there is a Turkish military base there.

Russian troops sent military reinforcements, including dozens of soldiers, long-range field artilleries and logistical supplies.

This is the first time Russian troops have deployed on the frontlines with Turkish forces.

Yesterday evening, regime forces and armed Iranian-backed Nubl and Zahraa militiamen brought military reinforcements included modern T90 tanks, troop carriers and hundreds of fighters.

The military reinforcements were deployed along the frontlines with the “National Army” factions in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

It is worth noting that this is the largest reinforcement since the Turkish escalation began on the evening of November 19.

On November 21, SOHR sources reported seeing Russian military reinforcement of 25 military vehicles arriving at Sarin base in the southern countryside of Ain Al-Arab (Kobani) and Al-Si’aydiyah base in the west of Ain Al-Arab city, east of Aleppo.

This coincided with the escalation of Turkish aerial and ground attacks on SDF-controlled areas in north and east Syria along the border strip.
