SH3 GWX crashes when trying to play Type VII

Hello, I have a new copy of SH3, from Steam, with GWX installed. No other mods are active.
When I create a new career on a Type II, I can load into missions just fine. However, when I try to create a career later in the war, such as in 1941, with a Type VII, the loading bar freezes at about 90% when trying to load into the mission, then the game crashes.
I was wondering if anybody had any insight to what might be producing this?
