Can't get SH4 to open

I have just aquired a Acer Aspire 5, Intel I5, 8GB Memory, Windows 10 Laptop UMD Graphics, and Nvidia GeForce MX350 as my old desktop crashed several times.

I have backups of several SH4 with MODS on separate hard drives. I also installed a vanilla version on my "C " Drive under C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4

Now my problem is that although I have tried compatability settings SH4.exe refuses to start not only on the vanilla version but also my backups. I click on the exe but nothing happens

Can anyone point me in a direction I could try.

PS This laptop also has UMD Graphics but I have altered the preferred GPU in the Nvidia settings to the GeForce card

I went to C:/Windows/syswow64
Once in that folder find gameux.dll and take ownership.
Then change security setting to Full control.
Rename it to gameux.dll.back and save.
That fixed my problems.

I have a problem with " take ownership" !!!
At the moment Windows won't allow me to make alterations

You need to be logged in as an Administrator.

Thanks for the visual explanation and all seems well now.

Only had one problem after which was that after closing SH4 with MODS I couldn't open the next modded version I had but I found out that after closing SH4 the normal way it was still running in the background when I used task master. As soon as I closed that down I could then load the other modded versions of SH4.
