After watching so many US Navy submarine movies, and the didactic episodes of the old "Silent Service" series, the consensus seems to be that two blasts of the horn is "dive" and three blasts is "surface." This is the case with the stock SH4 sounds, but by trying and combining some mods that enhance the ambient sounds, this is not always the case as sometimes in the emergency dive a single long tap is heard. Sometimes there is no honking. A voice screamed "Alarm" in the best of Das Boot style sometimes also infiltrated.I don't know if the collision warning signal is included in any of these mods, at least I never heard it. Another thing that is repetitive is the "Yes sir", and although I looked in the sounds section I could not find the equivalent mod to the German "No Jawoll". It would seem that in the submarines - unlike the great warships - there was a certain informality. I do not know if the crew sometimes said to the captains: "Skipper", as in the series "Voyage to the bottom of the sea". These comments are doubts that I have, that surely there will be someone who is kind enough to clarify me. From already thank you very much. Greetings!

i can confirm that in the US Submarine Service two horn blasts is the signal to dive and three to surface. however, if the situation calls for it, there will be no signal to surface as "the word will be passed". just as the call to battle stations may be passed rather than signaled...and there are iterations of battle stations depending on the the impending situation. those situations are not used in the game. keep in mind that just because you see something in a movie doesn't make it true. if you have not noticed, the sounds are captured sounds from motion pictures and are re-used in snippets where the Ubi programmers thought appropriate. watch the movie U-571 and then go play SH4 on the US side. if you wish to substitute your own sounds, feel free to do so. The \Data\Sound subfolder has all of sound bites and SH.SDL is the index that is followed on when/where to execute the sound bites. the game is what it is...a game. if you want reality, go enlist in the naval service of your choice. ![]()

Nice info. Now if someone could guide me to the annoying new "Radar Depth" .wav that was introduced in FOTRS. (There's more than one, but one particular one sounds like a "wimp" screeching out")

some are named funky so use the index to find things. also, i forgot to mention that some sounds are classed as speech so the file you want may be in \Data\Sound\Speech. There are several subfolders (9) in Speech for various ways the same thing can be spoken. Some are YELLED and some are normal voice. i have not put as much time into analyzing this as others. good luck! ![]()
