I'll be doing an upgrade to my 'Ship Names' mod pretty soon, which will automatically assign real ship classes to the names.

It doesnt seems to follow any well defiend rules and with all modlers naming/editing files in their own way this area is a mess.

In real life a ship class was usually named after the first ship of the class to be launched, or be commissioned. I've even seen on class named for three different function. About five years ago I assigned a large number of classes to reflect the 'First Ship' commissioned. I intend to start up again, and the first thing I'm doing is to assign class names in a way that will coincide historically with the real naming practice.
