Mr. Bundy was a good guy. He was my second skipper on the Barbel and pinned on my fish. For those of you who follow FPS Chazly's DW play-throughs on YT and Twitch, he was the skipper who ripped the OOD in my "zero bearing rate radar" story.

The rumor mill on board at the time was that Mr. Bundy had traded in a lot of bullets to get the Barbel. From reading the story, note that he was formerly enlisted. That meant he was not one of "Rickover's boys" in terms of nuke propulsion so getting an SSN or SSBN would have been a pipe dream and there were very few diesel boats left. If I had to pin down his command style, it would be "I made it here from starting out as an E-1, don't tell me what you can't do".

For the record, Mr. Bundy was the second African American officer to command a US sub. He could have a bit of a temper, but there was always that feeling that he was "one of us" since he was formerly enlisted.
