I have noticed that somewhere between the last two patrols the dive planes on my Balao sub do not move when I submerge. They stay folded.
Is there a setting I can check to make sure they are operational? |

If a Save of the game, then exiting, restarting the game, and reloading the Save "fixes" it, then quit "shelling out" to Windows from the game. Even an accidental shelling out to the desktop will cause graphic & sound anomalies. Windows "multi-tasks" and will re-assign resources that the "single-task" game expects to be in a certain location. You shell out to Windows, and the game will "move" the games resources. When the game can't find where Windows put them, it will sometimes even roll over and die...

Thats not it, save/reload didnt help and I did not shell out this entire patrol. If you set the compatibility to windows vista or less then the product doesnt have 'shell-out' issues as windows 10 operating system expects this kind or program to point to direct I/O. (which is why the shell out affects it) I engineer code, in case you wonder how I know. |

The 3000 yd bearing tool is a memory eater. This being an old 32-bit program, it (through Windows) can only address a limited amount of memory. If your Windows OS is 64-bit, then read CapnScurvy's "Windows10; Large Address Aware; SH4 Install", specifically for the Large Adress Aware part. That little gem will flip some bits in the SH4.exe file that shows Windows that the program can address more than 2gig of RAM. It might be that the issue is you are running out of room for all of the graphics. The dive planes seem to be a low-priority display item. You could also use the "NTCore 4gig Utility" for that, or any of the ones found in the SubSim downloads section. The "Better Rocks" and the "Smaller Seabed Rocks" are just dds files, and might both write to the same file, so pick one or the other. You might put the Bigger Better Protractors last in you list, though I don't think anything listed after conflicts...

I'll try removing mods next.
I have LAA and everything else. The product functions fine, quick, and stutterless and its only within one or two patrols that I noticed dive planes dont work. They did before, and the only thing I did was add the rocks and try the skins. |

One thing about adding and subtracting mods is that remnants of them are still in the Save folder, even if you did not Save a game. When the game starts the first time, it creates the SH4 folder in your C:\User \UserName \Documents folder (unless you've changed it with MultiSH4), and then it runs mostly from the data in that Save folder. You might also try deleting the Save folder - if removing the mods doesn't work - and try again. You lose your career progress and you have to re-set all of the display and sound options to your liking, but it is necessary to do quite often. Another thing you could check is to run LAA again, and make certain that it "took". Sometimes, after an install, the SH4.exe file is write-protected, and you will not get an error or warning from LAA about it failing to take...

Well your not imagining things. That long string of characters was me attempting to post a screen snapshot of the info you wanted. But everytime I did it converted to unicode. So I edited the post and put in the text extract.
Gee you must have been watching the threat at nearly the same time I was posting. It only took about 30 seconds to fix. ![]() |
