I wonder where this came from

PBY 5 Catalina tail in real life

And in SH5...

I thought it's a case of using similar looking aircraft model to represent another one, but I can't find any other flying boat looking like it.

Hi kapuhy,

SH5's Catalina is not really a Catalina, but a generic aircraft meant to vaguely resemble the real thing. If memory serves me well, the same applies to other US aircraft too, in SH5 as well as (unmodded) SHIV and SHIII. Possibly some sort of licensing issue between aircraft manufacturers and Ubisoft, or who knows what else...
