Crash on destroyer hit

I'm playing SH3 on Steam. Up till now everything has been running smoothly. I was attacking a Clemson destroyer and when the torp hit, the game stopped working and it stops working every time.

I've been playing the game as is from purchase. I don't know if it's already been patched and updated.

Any suggestions?

There have been no official patches with gameplay changes as far as I am aware of. But the Steam sh3.exe executable is different from other releases. Probably to make it work together with the Steam client.

So you are saying you do not have any mods enabled? Plain (Steam) vanilla?

Yes, it's plain Steam vanilla as far as I know. I personally have not added patches nor updated it.

You could try making a custom mission with a Clemson. And try to recreate the crash. I am not familiar with any special crash-sensitivity of this model. Then again, I haven't played Vanilla much. GWX 2&3 predominantly.

Then there are the notorious savegame issues with the game. Did you follow those rules? (I'm sure they are stickied somewhere) But those are mostly to prevent issues when loading the game. (Generally) Not when you've been playing the game for a while.

My own (single) crash-when-hit episode was years ago on a hot day with a dusty fan inside my computer. Probably a merchant also. So I don't have much help there.
