could not find any mention of Nvidia on search, which suprises me, but reckon someone will know..
Its icon disappeared from tasbar ( windows 7 ), the icon in control panel does not open, there is nothing in registry settings. I downloaded Geforce Experience in the hope it would rectify, it did not, so I wonder if the control panel has been quietly shelved because nvidia want us all to use GE ( which I do not like). Anyone know please, or have same experience and found a solution? Yes it is in Services, yes I have the latest driver.. ta ![]() |

Your Windows Update may have installed the MS version of the driver. You can open Windows Update from the Control Panel, or the "Start" menu, "All Programs", and it'll be just above all the folders listed there. In the left-hand pane (MS calls it a "gutter"), click on "View Update History". See if it installed a video driver on you, which would look something like:
nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce = Successful = Optional = 5/2/2017 7:18 PM My nVidia card's nVidia Settings screen wasn't working either, so I rolled back the Windows driver and had to re-install the nVidia one. What a bother... When you rollback a Windows Update, you shouldn't have to re-install anything - it should "rollback"... In the meantime, I'm wondering if like you mention, they're phasing-out the old interface, and going more Win10-centric, cell fone phobic... ??

RR, we will probably be joining you on Linux when W7 is no longer usable.
![]() Propbeanie, I had a look in WU, did not see anything immediate that might have caused the problem, but I shall keep it in mind - thank ee. ![]() Vienna, had a look at the links, the registry one was not there to fix, but I tootled up to the nvidia folder on C and saw that there was a setup in there for an older driver, so told that to go ahead and now the icon is back in taskbar and I can acces CP, so all seems sorted again. Thank you ![]() |

Might be a silly question, but can't you access it by right-clicking on your desktop?

yes, that scenario will become more likely as time goes on I s'pose.. the need to change to Win 10 will become more pressing as browsers and apps no longer work properly with the older systems.. ah well, new adventures with Linux then I guess, and hope our old games still work....

Hi SW
IIRC Windows 7 is supported by Microsoft until 2020. Peter

Microsoft has two tiers of support on old product: mainstream and extended. Win 7 exited mainstream a while back in January 2015, which means after that point, MS no longer provides any routine upgrades or tweaks to Win 7, just security patches until Win 7 exits extended support in 2020:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/24527...abandoned.html So any driver tweaks, update patches, or anything other than security patches ended a bout a year and a half ago. As mentioned before, newer device and driver software may not be compatible with the existing Win 7 setups... <O>
