Default The history of u-boats targeting techniques

To put the cherry on top of a 100% realism gaming session, I want to start out at least using the actual historical protocol for targeting and engaging targets in general. Anyone have a good link for this or top of the head info?

Now I assume that different tools and techniques were used as the war went on. I mainly am interested in the techniques used at the time the game starts. DId they use the RAOFB? or the raofb + the attack disc, or did they not use those tools yet? What was the "protocol" used for distance of attack. Also was the fast shoot 90 degree 0degree gyro shoot used back then?

Something else that has been bothering me is: What did uboat captains actually do? Did they actually get the range on targets or chart any? Or did they pretty much just stand around and give orders?

Hi, im interested too, I have watched a few war documentaries on tv with some recorded torpedo attacks on camera, also I have watched das boot a few times, never during watching did I see the capt use any charts, tools ect to work out the firing solution, all he did was shout out the bearings, I guess he estimated the enemy ships speed by the wake and bow wave of the ship moving, also estimating the range, should be fairly easy for a seasoned commander, (I spend most of my time driving and years and I can estimate how far in front another vehicle is just by the size and if I can read anthing written on the back lol).
