this may sound silly but I cannot seem to be able to determine the pecking order for my officers. since they all seem to start with the same characteristics they end up playing musical chairs for the first few patrols until I've assigned different quals to them and they eventually develop unique stats.
what are the qualifications best suited for the EO, NO, and WO? and which one would be considered the No. 1? is there a mod that adds different profile pics so I dont constantly end up with sets of twins? |

In Das Boot the no. 1 was the watch officer from Mexico City!

I have similar to Kapt Z.
On helmsman position I have LI always Oberleutnant with helmsman, machinist and repair qualifications. On navigation officer position I have Oberfännrich (Steuermann) with watch and helmsman qualifications. These two guys stay almost duration of my career. Eventually Steurmann is promoted to 2nd watch officer. On weapons officer position I have 1.WO usually Oberleutnant with watch, helmsman and torpedo qualifications. On watch officer position I have 2.WO usually Leutnant with watch, gunnery and AA qualifications. Additionally I have two Oberfännrichs as machinists in both diesel and electric motor rooms. They both have machinist and repair qualifications.

thanks for the tips. SH3 cmdr is a godsend for this this task. I think I have a handle on this now.
I'm going to try some of your suggestions on quals for my officers and go from there. does anyone assign quals to their sailors as well? |

I have my officers ordered the way they are in Das Boot. I also use one of the mods that puts in "their" pictures.

Do you use SHCommander? It lets you do almost unlimited tweaking of your crew. I would say without a doubt that Commander is the reason I still come back to SH3 again and again and again.
![]() This is the officer breakdown I tend to use- ENGINEER- Usually most senior officer(but not always) Qual- Helmsman, Engineer, Damage control 1ST WATCH OFFICER- Considered my XO. Qual- Watch, Torpedo, Damage control 2ND WATCH OFFICER- Qual- Watch, Gunnery, AA 3RD WATCH OFFICER- Qual- Watch, Helmsman I try to keep the Engineer with the boat as long as possible unless he is killed, transferred or fails to return from leave. The watch officers I expect to be transferred out eventually as they are needed on other boats or to assume their own command(my random choice or Commander's).
