I mean why are you not changing passwords on critical services every week and use two factor identification?

(probably got myself on the NSA watch list for saying that lol) I change passwords when I feel its time, I don't want or need to be REQUIRED to do it every 2 weeks because yahoo's buggy software cant seem to remember I already changed it. plus this is all to resolve a hack that happened back in 2014 !!!! so its a bit late for that by now. all this just started last month and you call them and they say they aren't even in control of their own software, if it says you need to do something then you have to do it or get locked out of your own account !!!!!!!!!!!! |

intresting. I have been using Yahoo! Mail for many years and it has never demanded me to change my password. There are ofcourse two potential explanations a) I pay for them for their ad free premium version and b) I use British (@yahooo.co.uk) version of service.
As for alternatives I can only offer Live or Gmail but those are just as ad stuffed as standard Yahoo unless you use something to block ads (as I do, except here in subsim).

You are welcome Neal. BTW I see ads in top right and below forum/thread title. Is that as it should be or is something missing?
Sorry for this minor derailment.

I use gmail, moved over from at&t (yahoo) years ago. I have never been rejected for using it, nor do I have any ads while using it.

Our It department gut a bug up it's butt a coupe years ago, probably handed down from the higher ups, that we were required to change both our logins and email passwords every 2 weeks. They couldnt be the same for both accounts at the same time, and they couldn't be a previously used password. We were also forbidden from writing the passwords down.
During a company wide meeting, the issue of people getting written up for writing down their passwords came up. I stood up, took out my cheat sheet, and asked who else in the room had their passwords on a piece of paper on them. 80% of the 150 people in the room held up theirs, and the other 20% said they had them in their desks. Now it's every three months, and there's only one account. ![]() |

I've use hotmail.com for years and years. I don't have a reason to change email services.

It is ok to write the password down if: - you have a lot of passwords to handle. - you store them securely. A lot of system admins and the like use software like keypass to store numerous logins/passwords. Ofc that implies that now instead of 100+ 16 character passwords you remember one 16+ (up to 40) character password (with the same rules about changing it) but then noone says that life would be easy.

thanks for the suggestions guys
I guess i'll try the Hotmail thing and see how I like it, Gmail seems ok too but I think that's the one all the spammers use so that might cause issues with creating accounts at some websites im just a crusty old bugger set in his ways and I want websites to leave my accounts and my password choices alone lol |
