Default Amazon's Grand Tour

Soooo.... thoughts? I know we probably have a thread on this somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

Hmmm... just realized it's friday... time to watch the next episode.

If you weren't a Top Gear fan to start with, I'd think you'd have trouble falling in love with this show.

I appreciate Skinner as a driver, and he may actually have intelligent thoughts on the vehicles he's driving, but the dialouge they do give him is probably the low point of the show for me.

Celebrity death walk or whatever they call it, could be awesome, but it seems to have backed off a bit since the premier. They over shot the gag early and haven't been able to keep it up.

Their new track is kinda underwhelming. I mean, the old track was flat, and a runway, but it was fast, and eventually became a real track in the motoring world. This one just seems to be the old paved bit behind grandma's barn. As the track is not connected to the studio like the old one was, I'm sure they could have found a better one. I mean, there's got to be plenty of abandoned, or part time, airfields all over Britain, or the US, or anywhere they could easily get the vehicles to.

A lot of the gags seem too forced, but some feel real enough. Example, the commando team bit was pretty lame at first, but with each iteration, I started to laugh more and more. But others just seem really forced, like the recent bulletproof vehicle. There wasn't even a hint of a realistic expectation of them doing any of it. Even in the old show which had some forced bits, there was some measure of them actually putting in some work in the bit, ie building the vehicle or having a vested interest in it. Like the Lorry/Semi truck episode, there were some pretty forced bits in it (the fire for one, losing the car), but they were all relatively believable.

That all said, and more that wasn't, I still like this show. There would be too many missed throwbacks if I didn't already like the show, but as these three made TG what it was (I'm glad they ditched the original guy after season 1, May really rounded out the trio), I'm a fan of them, more than the show.
