Default How does operation monsun compare to GWX?

I wanna play silent hunter again. I LOVED gwx. But i would really like a new coat of paint.

How close does operation monsun get? Does it have the same amount of content and detail?

I already have silent hunter 5 and id rather not play that mess again lol.

Open Monsun has entirety different subject matter as GWX so it wouldn't be fair to compare them directly. Lurker is a meticulous and skilled modder. But he is one person. GWX was put together by a large team.

Still, I think you'll enjoy OP Monsun.

I don't know about comparing it to GWX, but give it a whirl. Have you tried SH5 with some of the mega-major mods?... Myself, I still can't get down the ladder, but I haven't tried it since starting of the FotRS Ultimate adventure...

Only reason I ask is because i dont even own silent hunter 4 lol.

Was wondering before I bought it.

Yeah i tried SH5 with a megamod a bit over a year ago and it was just worse in everyway compared to GWX. I just dont wanna bother with SH4 op monsun if its the same way. I know for sure it will be more stable, but im worried about content and quality.

OM combines the best of SH4 with an Atlantic campaign. The best includes the automatic crew rotation, the way the entire crew jumps into action whey you call for Battle Stations, the better graphics and some other stuff. On the other hand it doesn't have all the other things offered by the wealth of other mods available for SH3.

I'm not a graphics junkie (I still play Aces Of The Deep sometimes) but I do like the historic feel that comes with certain mods. In OM you don't get the locks leading to the canals - in fact the entrance to the Kiel Canal looks like the mouth of a river. Also Lurker made some mistakes that never got corrected, like the Type II having 47 crew members instead of 27. If you can live with all that, OM is quite enjoyable.

I'm not one to compare GWX, since I haven't had SH3 on my machine since about 2008 or 9, after I'd played SH4 for a while and kept neglecting SH3. I never did mod my SH3, and when I built a new computer (for SH4), I never bothered with SH3 again. I don't even remember where my disk is...

Check out that link from lurker above there, and see what you think. You'll like SH4 if you liked 3. 'Course, I'm not much of a unterwasser boot kind of person though, I'm more of a submersible boat dude, so I'm slightly biased...

The holiday sale from Steam starts on Dec. 22. You can get SH4, and well as the Uboat add on to bring the game to version 1.5, for less than 8 dollars.

The Steam version, as long as you have the uboat mission expansion installed, works with all mods using the JSGME. I can confirm this as I have the steam version, and mods work as advertised and designed.
