Default Been away for a long time, and ...

Good day, gentlemen (and ladies) ...

I've been overseas for 2 1/2 years, and just arrived back in the good ole USA, yesterday. Having acquired a new computer, in the interim, I have a question.

The last time I played SH5 was before I left the continent. I'm going to be buying the Collector's Edition of the game, tomorrow, and would like some advice on a good mix of mods for it. Of course, I will start with JSGME, and go from there.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks ...

My best advice..."The Wolves of Steel 1.06 Expansion Pack"

Thanks much for the recommendation. Just before I came back to this thread, I was looking at Steel Wolves. It's quite impressive, to say the least.

I note that it's still a WIP, but I've always liked the concept of the megamod. No inherent worries about mods conflicting with each other, and I note that some modders have started to offer up their mods as compatible with SW.

While I was overseas, I picked up the full 5-hour version of Das Boot, and immediately forgot about Skyrim, Civilization 6, Star Trek Online, or anything else. I lived to get back in my Type VII and do some serious hurt.

Once again, thanks, and I think there's some all-nighters, ahead. The wife won't like that ...

In my opinion, "TWoS" allows the player to have the best "all round" experience with SH5. One of the primary goals of this expansion pack is game stability and it is "WIP" because the main person behind this mod, vdr1981 is constantly working towards improving and keeping this work updated.

SHO Stream or Disk

I am also thinking of re-enlisting after a 3+year shore-duty. What is better, an actual disk or downloading the game? Or is there a better option?

When you purchase a dvd you own it.
Steam is not compatible with the mega mods without a Steam conversion being made.

Currently I'm running The Wolves of Steel which is IMO a fantastic mod.
It uses the TDW Generic Patcher, which doesn't work with Steam.

Because of that I at least wouldn't advice a steam version of the game.

Once again, thanks very much for all the advice.

Recently, I've had quite a bit of trouble even accessing my Steam programs, and decided to download a non-Steam version of the game (it cost $9.95 at Gamersgate, and it was up and running in about an hour!).

This version does include U-Play, however, and I was wondering if I will run into any problems? Is it possible to avoid using U-Play, altogether?
