Hi Gang!
I was wondering if it is possible to play WOTP without keeping the DVD inserted? I have tons of CDs and DVDs and keeping track of them all gets to be a pain. I installed the game normally and I found pretty quickly it would force me to put the DVD in the DVD drawer before it would let me play. I ended up with 4.55GB in my c:\docs\SSI folder, Is that the key to this problem? Maybe I need to install it in my program folder? I never did understand why I was told not to install it there when I first obtained the game? Thanks Ya'll! LarryT |

Steam has WotP currently listed at $9.99... Get the U-Boat Add-on for an additional $9.99 (which includes the update to v1.5). AND if you're interested in SH3 also, you can pick that up too for... You guessed it... $9.99 ! And for the Grand Finalle... SH5 is available for $9.99 So for $40 smackers you got all 4 and never again have to worry about DVDs. ![]()

Are you using version 1.3 of the game by chance? Did you buy your disk years ago? I'm pretty sure that the v1.4 patch is the one that got rid of the DVD requirement. It's in the download section here if you want / need it.

Actually, it was 1.3 that got rid of the DVD in the drive requirement and actually completely removed Sony's SecuROM from the game. It stayed that way until 1.5, when SecuROM reared its ugly head again, in spite of Ubi promises that it was gone. I understand with SH4 Gold and Steam versions, SecuROM is deep sixed and not present in the software.
To this day, when I start SH4UBM, if I'm running Microsoft Process Explorer, SecuROM pokes its pimple infested head out and won't let me play the game until I close Process Explorer. I start the game and immediately restart Process Explorer. They run fine together. The stunt was just a gimmick to extort money from Ubi, not real protection from anything.

And each patch contains all previous patches. No need to install 1.3 then 1.4.
