Default [REL] Iron Man mod for WAC4.1

What this mod does it makes the game a lot harder.

1. No saving game, only end patrol is allowed.
2. No ship/distance info at atack periscope/obs periscope/UZO notepad, also no lock button.
3. No hydrophone notepad info.
4. No watch crew help. (watch crew will not spot ship anymore, you have to do it by your self)
5. No hydrophone help from crew.
6. No plotting course on map. You have to calculate by yourself.
7. No sub on map at any zoom level.

This mod is only for WAC4.1.

Good luck.

I don't see a few things in SH3 very realisticly.

1. To have that magical notepad in periscope or UZO, or hydrophone i didn't know real ubots have that, just to point the ship and it tells you all kind of info.

2. Lock button? how did that worked in 1940's? You point a ship and you hit
lock button and periscope rotates folowing the ship?

3. In fog, even when you dont see a ship, you can randomly press lock until
it locks to a ship even if you don't see it.

I think those things are highly unrealistic.

Cheers

Very good addition

I also would like to see your addition very much with WAC5.0 with Manos HD GUI or Ahnenerbe FHD GUI.

Default To much time.

I guess if you don't have a family and job this would be a great mod. Me, I have a family of 4 plus a job that requires me to work around 140 hours of overtime every quarter. The whole not being able to save the game and having to sit on the conning tower for ever in a day isn't for the most part going to work for most people.

@ J0313
If you don't like to sit in the conning tower forever just delete Cfg and Library folders from my mod.

I think this thread brings up another issue altogether. We don't know anything about redline or what he does or who he is, but we can assume he has alot of time on his hands, and that he doesn't use his comp for things other than SH3. I use mine as my school machine, programming and my media center.

Most people, however, don't have this time. I rarely able to play any games any longer let alone mod any more with work and school. But, if I had the time to play a real-time simulation in real time without saving, I would look for other ways to use my time like devoting it to modding or improving that game. I guess its just a difference of interest, opinions, or even abilities. But to devote such time to such things is not only amazing, but also very difficult to relate to or even understand.

For example, if I had the time redline does, as we can assume he has plenty, I would teach myself a programming language (if he doesn't know it) and then figure out how to dissect the memory of the game and find base pointers to important values to change the game in a revolutionary manner. But I guess this is a difference of perspectives.

@ areo16
well.. you are right about one thing "we don't know anything about redline" that's for sure

My last patrol took about 4 hours and i was using TC.
I was risking a lot but in the end i sank 2 DD's and 2 merchants and i missed another one from 400 meters away.

The periscope did have a lock. It just was not locked on the target, it was locked to a fixed position in space. This was the firing position point, as the solution was plotted in, this solver position was the aiming point. As the ship moved into the aiming reticle ( usual to chose the just before or after the funnel wanting to destroy the ships vital machinery ) the torpedo must be fired! The Hydrophone notes were kept for submerged attack he could update changes in a low light condition not seen right away that are crucial. The real data kept there was the speed calculated by revolutions per minute. Often the only way to calculate speed of a target at night. In any of our super mods so far the periscope has not been accurate enough for realistic manual targeting. For one there are two visible azimuth indicators visible in the ocular view. One the fixed "0" of the bow, and two relative bearing of the periscope one above the other. ( photographs included in the link provided ) the wrongly identified "observation periscope" is actually the Night Periscope. Its broader head collected as much light as possible giving better options for a night shot but never perfect as sometimes no shot was possible. Here is a link to the best research ever done on the TDC and the Attack and Night Periscopes and the advanced Properties contained in them and many of the pre-solved firing solutions for set angles of attack if the TDC was inoperable. http://tvre.org/en/aiming-with-the-periscope Realism mods always intrigue me, sometimes I have the time to just sit and forget the clock in SH3. I sat for 6 hours real time just getting depth charged once.

@ mikey117us

Thanks for the info. I still don't prefer lock button.

Another point about "locking" the periscope. No, the periscope didn't "lock" onto the target, but the captain did. While he kept the periscope fixed on the target he called out the bearing and range to the plotting crew. You can't do that in the game, so the Lock button is actually more realistic, not less.

@ Sailor Steve
Ok i see your point. But hmm...that does not make much sense to me, if i am the captain i just rotate the periscope by my self following the target, i don't need lock button to do that for me. Another thing is in the fog you can lock the ship even if you don't see it. I just don't like to use it that's all.
