Default When to break target lock

Hi, just curious... after I program the TDC and fire a torpedo, can I immediately break target-lock and start aiming at something else?

I'm not sure how the torpedo and TDC communicate. I notice the torp curves away from straight-ahead firing path about 20 m away from the sub. Don't want to mess with that, if the TDC is still somehow controlling it.

Thanks

- Don

The TDC just programs the torpedoes before they are fired. Once they leave the tubes they are on their own. So feel free to break a lock once you've fired.

You can even break it earlier if you're setting the TDC things by hand via a mod or using the default 1-2-3 bubble system.

If you're attacking a convoy you can even do the trick where you use the same settings for all ships in a row and just fire as each pass your scope and they'll all hit at the same time!

This post explains that process.

That is known as 'the convoy overlap'; timing is everything! Aim the eel at the furthest target (of four), making sure all four eels-or at least the first three- are set for the same speed. Any Steam eels can go 40 knots & should be set for 30 knots to match the electric eels' speed. Wait till the first eel passes the first vessel before firing at target # two: the next most distant target; wait again till it passes the first vessel and fire at the second closest target, # three, and then fire your last loaded eel at the closest target-# 4. Use a steam eel for this last closest ship; set on high to make sure, if your timing is off, on the previous three shots...as the convoy will start to turn at the first explosion. If all goes well all four should hit simultaneously causing great confusion and the convoy may even split, milling and scattering in confusion as in SHII scenarios. A refresher course: U cannot do worse than U-96's Heinrich Lehmann-Willenbrock ... note the dialog reference: "Those two! that overlap-double blast the fat one! " in this video: Good Hunting!
