Sub Equipment

I recently started a new career and noticed that there were several options for items I had never been 'offered' before, I think they were radar equipment as I recall. I had never seen these before. When I tried to load them, I was informed they were not available for my sub and when I came back to base. they had vanished off the list.

I know its only a game but why are we 'charged' reknown points for equipment which was standard? Surely the best available should depend on the success of the sub/missions/crew - reknown points are awarded for this but why not just leave it up to the software? If I have a 'few' reknown points I cant have something which may be the catalyst to greater things?

If you're playing Stock there were a couple mods that gave every piece of equipment for free. Also, there were mods that gave enormous amounts of renown.

The renown thing is a gamey thing the Devs decided to add to SH4 just like the Special Abilities crewmen that make your boat go faster, dive quicker, etc.

Not realistic. Look for a mod called Free Equipment or something like that.

I haven't had any luck finding anything yet, searching again..... I could have sworn someone made one.

Okay, Edit your own CareerStart.upc file in \Data\UPCData\UPCCampaignData\ yourself to have as much renown as you want:

In CareerStart.upc:

Look for "RenownOptions=" and change it to say:

From RenownOptions= 1000, 2000, 5000
To:
RenownOptions= 2000, 5000, 10000

In Stock 1.5 there are four places, here is "[CareerStart 4]":

From:

[CareerStart 4]
ID= LateWar
NameDisplayable= 1944
StartTimeInterval=1944-01-15, 1944-04-31
BackgroundPic= 1944.tga ; picture that is displayed on the background when this option is selected
CareerStartBriefingText= The war is still undecided, but we're gaining on them.
RenownOptions= 1000, 2000, 5000

To:

[CareerStart 4]
ID= LateWar
NameDisplayable= 1944
StartTimeInterval=1944-01-15, 1944-04-31

Whatever you want. Hope this helps. Be sure to make a backup in case you mess up and use a Text editor like NotePad, not Word or WordPad.

The same principal should work in 1.4 once you locate the file CareerStart.upc.. it's probably in the same location....
