Sonar problem

can someone give me a manual of US sonar?
I am always confused of the report about range and target.

I've Played this game for years and am using the Gold edition I picked up in 2008 I think. Right now I'm in Windows 10 and only one problem not related to Win 10. I can not get into the sonar room and manually click on the bearing indicator and move until I pick up the screw noises. I could in the older regulation SH/4 with patches. After all these years I sure could use a fix. Thanks
